Year 8 Challenge Week

Part 2

Week 8 of Term 1 saw Year 8s participate in Challenge Week! With “Challenge” being the theme for this year, the students were certainly put to the test through various activities, which included Tree Top climbing, Escape Rooms, Unboxing tasks, Cable and Aqua fun, and Bike Riding.

It was so impressive to see students really push themselves (even towards the end of the week), and engage wholeheartedly in all the activities on offer. In order to gain some feedback on the week, we conducted a survey of the students and the responses were extremely positive.

Here are some of the results:

  • 89% of students surveyed stated that they enjoyed challenge week.
  • 70% stated that they had pushed themselves in ways that they didn’t think they could.
  • 72% felt more connected to their peers.
  • 90% would recommend Challenge Week to other students at Wantirna College.

Overall, these results speak volumes about the programs that are being run at Wantirna, and the positive impact that such programs are having on the wellbeing of our students.

Students were also asked to write a comment about their experience. Below are some of the responses:

Caitlin I was able to enjoy myself with classmates out of school.
Ava-Grace I was so confident and had a positive mindset during challenge week.
Sophie I had fun and made a closer connection with people I didn't have a connection with before
Dalton I was able to push myself past the point where I wanted to quit.
IsaacI made new friends in a different class and helped others complete their goals and overcome their challenges.
ArielI was able to spend time with my peers and friends while challenging myself to do things that were difficult.
Austin I was able to conquer my fear of going up high things by doing the treetops and high ropes course
Ewan I was able to enjoy myself with my friends and I experienced lots of memories that I can keep with me for my life.
NatalieI was able to push myself even though I was scared to but challenge week provided me the opportunity to do so.
OliviaI was able to go on the treetop thing even though I was afraid to, that challenged me.

We would like to thank the Year 8 cohort for their exemplary behaviour during the week. We enjoyed spending time with you and getting to know you more as a cohort. We are looking forward to engaging with you in our year level competitions throughout the year!
