Sports News

Last Friday we held our St Mary's School Sports at the Lake Oval. The day did not get off to a good start as the rain pelted down as soon as we arrived. Nonetheless, the students had a small break back at school while the rain cleared and we were back on track at the Lake Oval shortly after. To everyone’s credit, the day ended up being a great success as we worked our way through the challenges of the weather. Congratulations to the Blue House and their captain’s Freya Uytdehaag and Jack Fay, who won the sprints and Relay trophy and to Gold house and their captains, Ted Hay and Edie Nelson, who won the Tabloids Trophy and the Aggregate Trophy for most points overall.

Tennis

Congratulations to Rachael Richardson who competed in the Greater Western Tennis Tournament last week. Rachael was competing mainly against grade 6’s, some 2 years her senior! She put in a brilliant effort in what can only be described as a miserable day weather wise. I am sure she will be back next year, ready to give it another go!

AFL

AFL Barwon are planning on having an Under 10 Girls, an Under 10 Boys & an Under 12 Mixed Competition this year. If your child is interested in playing Australian Rules Football read the below information:

Should there be a lack of registrants in the Under 10 Girls age group, the Under 10 Girls participants will be able to take part in the Under 10 Boys, comprising an Under 10 Mixed competition.

Season Dates & Venue/s

The U10/U12 competitions will be commencing on Friday, May 12 and conclude on Friday, July 28.

There will be two byes for school holidays on June 30 & July 7.

Same as previous years, these competitions will take place at Australian Lamb Company Oval (Central Reserve).

In the scenario that we have too many entered teams for the one venue, we’ll look at organising a second venue in Colac.

In total, 10 rounds of games will be played.

Player Registration

Players can register at their desired club for the Friday Night competitions via https://www.playhq.com/afl. Search for one of the clubs below.

Should your club not have enough players to field a side in a particular age group, we’ll assist in coordinating clubs to merge teams.

In the scenario that there are several clubs that only have a few kids registered in an age group, we will assist in merging multiple teams together into the one side via permits (similar to what was done in 2022).

It has been a busy term for sports and I would like to thank everyone who has helped out in some way, shape or form. Term 2 is shaping up to be just as big. Enjoy the break and see you all next Term.
