Gardening Club

The Gardening Club are doing a great job weeding the vegetable patch each Friday but we desperately need more help.

If we have any parents or grandparents who are interested in helping out with some gardening please let Mrs Kerr (6C / BER) know.

FREE Pianos

CEPS has been very lucky over the years to acquire 4 pianos, although it is time for 2 of them to start a new beginning.  CEPS are offering the school community first opportunity before we open the offer to the wider community.  These pianos are FREE.

If you are interested, or know of someone interested please come and see the office.

Immigration Excursion - Year 6

On Tuesday, all of the grade 6’s caught the train for an excursion to the immigration museum in the city.  We had lots of fun looking at all the artifacts and exhibits.

The favourite artifacts were the confiscated items.  We looked at some of the stories of some people who immigrated to Australia.  It was very interesting to read where they came from and why they came to Australia.

A big thanks to our parent helpers Juanita and Anna for coming on the trip.  A big thanks to Mrs Kerr, Miss Boucher and Mr Packham for making this possible.  We had a fun time!

Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge

Dear Parents,

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Cheltenham East Primary School is excited to be participating.  The PRC application offers a range of exciting features including:

  • access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)
  • a modern user-friendly interface
  • rewarding students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved
  • the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development.  It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 8th of September, 2023.

Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers.  Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.

All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.

To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklists and for more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge, visit: https://www.vic.gov.au/premiers-reading-challenge

Sentral Calendar

Dear CEPS families

We are pleased to announce the publication of a School Community Calendar to help families with planning for upcoming events.

There are three ways to look at the calendar - choose the one that suits you (see the attachment for screenshot assistance):

1. SENTRAL - Updated to allow users to see a list of upcoming events:

  •  If you access the parent portal via a desktop computer or using the URL on your mobile device, you will see a list of upcoming events listed on the right-hand side of your home page.
  •  If you access Sentral via the app on your phone, there is a calendar button that will take you to a monthly list of upcoming events

2. WEBSITE - A new calendar option has been enabled:

  •  The front page of our school website lists upcoming events for the week ahead. Clicking the yellow calendar button takes you a live calendar synced to Sentral that you can scroll through month by month

3. NEWSLETTER - A new link:

  • Takes you to the School Community Calendar where you can choose to view upcoming events via day, week, month or term.

We have included information in relation to upcoming whole school events, as well as individual year level excursions (with cost estimates) to assist families with forward planning.

Please be aware that there are events in the latter part of the year that are still being confirmed and may be subject to change. Please contact the school via email for clarification if you are making any plans based on activities listed in Terms 3 & 4 that rely on the accuracy of the information listed.

We hope that families find this calendar useful.

Walk Safely to School Day - Friday May 19th

Cheltenham East Primary will be participating in the ‘Walk Safely To School Day’.  It is an event to help educate, encourage and motivate students to be walking safely to school. The day aims for students to develop exercise routines, build on environmental knowledge of decreasing carbon emissions from driving and embedding students with road safety rules.

A huge thank you to Southland Woolworths and Coles for providing us with fresh fruit. Students will be able to collect a piece of fruit on arrival after their big walk to school.  Please get involved by, locking this date in the diary and getting everyone in the family involved by walking to school.
