Senior Sports has begun for Term 2. Students have selected which sport they wanted to participate in either soccer,  netball,  flag rugby, or AFL.

In search of safety

The Australian Red Cross delivered an interactive and informative incursion for the Year 6 classes this month, that taught students about refugees and people seeking asylum around the world and in Australia.

During the In Search of Safety program, students had the chance to imagine what it would be like to flee their homes quickly through an engaging simulation, and to hear from children their age about their experiences of seeking safety.

This was a great opportunity for students to learn about human rights, why people need protection and they’ve all been given an activity to practice humanitarianism at home!

Room 3

Since the start of the school year, Year 6 students in Room 3 have been learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures by exploring the differences between an Acknowledgement of Country and a Welcome to Country. Room 3 students then composed their classroom’s Acknowledgement of Country.

As a result, Room 3 students were invited to share what they learned by teaching the school community, students from Years 3 to 6, how to write their own classroom-specific Acknowledgement of Country. They did a fantastic job at teaching, and everyone had a great experience.

A special thank you to Mrs Barr, from Tom Price, who was at Burrendah Primary School for Term 1. She helped to further extend students’ knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures.
