MUSIC Legally Blonde Journey 

At the very beginning, everyone was so excited to hear that we were doing Legally Blonde Jr as the musical, but what really was surprising was that we were partnering with Simonds College as well. 

First, we paired up with a friend to do a joint audition. I think this kind of audition made us much more comfortable and less nervous because we knew someone there. It was talkative, exciting and all together enjoyable. 

We were able to perform songs for the characters we were auditioning for and also recite a short dialogue scene with our partner. 

When rehearsals first kicked off, we played games to get to know a little bit about all the cast members and also met the Simonds cast. 

Since Simonds has now joined the musical, we have a much more diverse group of voices and faces. Not only that, but I think it’s a great opportunity for Simonds to join the musical so our connections are stronger and bring our community closer together. 

Once we all met and familiarised ourselves with each other, rehearsals went straight into singing the opening number, running through dialogue and small choreography for solo scenes.  Everyone is very dedicated and motivated to learn their parts and stay organised during rehearsal and even after.  Another great part of rehearsals is that former Academy students come in and help out with the singing, dancing choreography and also the costumes for certain characters. The majority of the cast already have a connection with these people, so working together is enjoyable and productive. 

This show has also made so many new connections and friendships across the entirety of the year levels and schools. Everyone is so willing to help others out if they’re uncertain about anything and everyone’s so encouraging and supportive to everyone which is what makes up such an amazing, lovable cast that will be remembered for years to come.

This has been such a wonderful experience so far and I’m so incredibly grateful to be in such a great show with an amazing cast of supporting and talented people.
