Bulletin #3 – Senior School Report

The senior school students have been working tirelessly over the last 5 weeks. After a smooth transition back to school, students are now in the middle of their first assessments, which are called School Assessed Coursework (SACs) in all of their classes. This requires students to ensure that they are well prepared and revising on a regular basis.

Families can support our students by ensuring they have a clear study timetable in place – this should be up in a visible location such as on the fridge and can be used to prompt your children to ensure they are using this each day.

Another way in which you can support your child is to check their child’s diary to ensure set homework and revision tasks are being completed when received and not left until it is late.

Early in Term 2 the senior school will be releasing the SAC calendar for our Year 11 & 12 students to support you in ensuring both you and your child know about their major assessments that are coming up.

Attendance for SACs is crucial, if a student fails to attend a SAC, they require a medical certificate. Failure to produce a medical certificate will result in a zero score, this can significantly impact your child’s study score and ATAR in year 12 or their pathways options at year 10 – 12.

Over weeks 5 – 10 our students engaged in some amazing opportunities, including the following:

  • Our Year 12 VCAL class went on their hike, this was organised entirely by this class, from the risk assessments, to their pitch, budgets, meal plans and training plans. The students overcame challenges covering 22km over 2 days, including a 17km walk to Creswick on their first day. Students cooked on their Trangia’s and played card games that night.
  • The Man Cave and Flourish Girl Program challenged our students to reflect on their aspirations, the self worth and their own wellbeing, building commitments to be better versions of themselves in a supportive and connection build space with their peers.
  • Wellbeing Excursion to the Werribee Zoo, this saw our year 10 students engage in a day to decompress checking out many different cute critters, big and small.
  • Magic moments interviews – which saw Jackie Rodgers, Zyron Humphries, Chelsea Menkens and James Burton as successful applicants. These four year 10 students now travel to the Magic Moments summit in Sydney all expenses paid to learn about leadership.
  • Students have been out to a series of vocational and pathways experiences including Paddock to plate experience and VET Fest.

Term 2 will see our students participate further in building their study skills, exploring pathways and preparing for course selection for 2024 and their upcoming first round of exams. With Term 2 being a short term, with only 9 weeks, students will need to be more focused than ever before, supporting your young person by engaging in conversations about their learning is one of the best ways to support their commitment and dedication to their subjects.

Can’t wait to come back for an even more exciting term 2 with our year 10, 11 and 12 students.

We wish each and every student and their families a Happy Easter and a nice relaxing holiday break.
