Curriculum and Learning

notes from the Classrooms and DE

I’m pleased to report that a piece of narrative writing from one of our students will find a place in the Assessing Writing in Australia ‘exemplars’ report, which will be made available to all participating schools in Australia.  The pieces of writing from students across the country have been carefully chosen for each year group. The exemplars report provides an excellent resource to help schools in their teaching and learning. The idea is that they will help teachers understand the kind of writing that is produced for a range of students. Accompanying this useful resource will be a blog post about grades and writing standards linked to insights from the Assessing Writing in Australia project. Of course, the exemplars in the reports will be completely anonymous, so none of the students or the schools will be identified - it will just be the piece of writing, alongside important teaching and learning insights.

Here at Newham Primary School we continue to strive for exemplar standards for all our students. Having only been implementing the 'Writing Revolution' for 12 months, it is reassuring to know that we have begun to make a difference in writing ability. To have an internationally based project conducting writing research in Australian schools, choose a piece of our writing to include in their exemplar report is gratifying. Students across Australia will see this writing and be supported in their learning to aspire to the same standards.
