Notes from School Council and the School Council President
At the beginning of the year I informed School Council that I applied for the Federal grant for school improvements from Rob Mitchell's office.
Yesterday Rob phoned me to convey the fantastic news that not only have Newham Primary School received a grant BUT we have been given the full $25,000 to complete the outdoor projects as detailed in the grant. Most of this will be to complete the outdoor learning space under the new shade sail - previous government initiative (installation is starting today). This is very exciting news!
The Buildings and Grounds sub-committee will be working on a number of projects supporting this grant and our sustainability goals. We are waiting for the outcome of a Junior Landcare grant to update work around the Frog Bog and Ms Fullard has other grants in mind.
Please be on the look out for further information from the Buildings and grounds folk, as many hands make light work!
During the pandemic the state government allocated funds for eligible schools across Victoria to receive an outdoor shade space. Due to the massive number of schools receiving this allocation the shade sail companies were now swamped with work. So here we are in 2023 and we finally have installation workers on-site.
This shade sail will have an impermeable membrane rather than shade cloth and is big enough to shelter quite a number of students. It will blend in with the shade sail already in place, in size and colour.
