Chapel Donations in Term 2

This term for chapel we are donating to two causes. In Junior Years, we are donating to Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS ) which is something we support regularly.

Supporting Melbourne's Homeless

In Middle and Senior Years, we are donating funds to help homeless people in the city.  Last week a group of Worship and Mission Captains from GNLC went into the city and sourced how much money is needed to buy a simple backpack and fill it full of items that someone who is homeless might need. This included a blanket, socks, beanie, hygiene products, water, and some simple food. We then personally delivered the backpacks to some of the homeless people we met.  So, all Chapel offerings this term will go towards paying for a backpack that the captains then deliver to homeless people around Melbourne.

As Christians, we are called to love and care for those in need. Of course, one group who are often in great need is the homeless. They may be struggling with addiction, mental illness, or simply lack the resources to secure stable housing. It can be easy to pass by someone who is homeless without stopping to help. But as followers of Jesus, we are called to see everyone as a beloved child of God and to treat them with dignity and respect.

In Matthew 25:35-40, Jesus teaches us that when we help those in need, we are actually serving him. By providing food, shelter, or other forms of assistance to someone who is homeless, we are showing them the love of Christ and helping them to experience God's grace and mercy. That is why we are trying to serve our community and serve those in need.

May God bless you all,

Josh Hauser
