Beyond the Classroom

Year 10 Excursion and Pathways Information

Year 10 Music – Term 1, Week 10

On Tuesday, April 4, the Year 10 Music class headed off on an excursion to CollArts’ Collingwood Campus.  The class experienced creating industry-level music production techniques.  They learned the basics about how to manipulate sound envelopes, then created some dance music using Ableton Live.  Live is fast, fluid, and flexible software for music creation and performance.  It comes with effects, instruments, sounds, and all kinds of creative features – everything you need to make any kind of music. The Ableton workshop with Brett incorporated many performance aspects that have been presented in school lessons, such as the Kick-Hi-Snare-Hi pattern.  The students were able to recognise and transfer these concepts to their digital compositions. Later, the students gained a valuable insight into the array of possible tertiary pathways available with CollArts.

One highlight for many of the students was in visiting all the places where different types of recordings could be made.  Killing Heidi’s Adam Pedretti vacated one of the larger studios so we could check out the equipment.

In the end, the students were better informed about where their musical interests may take them in the not-too-distant future.

Should any students be interested, CollArts holds Open Days & School Holiday programs.  Check out their website to see what’s on offer: www.collarts.edu.au
