Year 8 News
Warm welcome.
Our Year 8 students are settling into term 2. Our focus for students is to be in uniform, arrive on time with all resources and participate in all learning activities throughout their classes. Most of our students are on track with this and doing well in their classes, as evidenced by a high number of Kurnai Positive Acknowledgements being written up each week. Our Homework Club is available to support students and is in the Library every Wednesday after school until 4pm.
With the cooler weather coming up, it’s a good time to check winter uniform items. The new puffer jackets are available in the uniform shop. Please contact us if you are having issues accessing the uniform items.
Selected Year 8 students will be invited to attend a 5-day, 4-night camp at Mill Valley, near Tynong from Monday 5th June to Friday 9th June, 2023. The camp is heavily subsidised and is being offered to students working well under the Kurnai 4 Pillars of Work Ethic, Engagement, Relationships, and Excellence.
We will travel to and from Mill Valley with Latrobe Valley Bus Lines. At Mill Valley, students will stay in cabins in groups and will participate in a range of activities including horse riding, archery, mountain biking, camp cooking, and a range of team games and initiatives.
The Mill Valley goal is to support the students in their learning journey and to encourage success along the way. There will be an emphasis on building resilience and confidence, risk-taking, and team-building activities throughout the camp with students leading their groups through the range of activities provided. Students will have responsibilities during the camp and will collaborate with their teams to complete these.
Permission will be available on Compass next week.
The year 8s have been learning to draw including objects in two-point perspective. This type of drawing can be difficult to get your head around, but the Year 8 students have done an amazing job of creating a city street in two-point perspective. This type of drawing is important to know if students choose to go into careers around construction, architecture, game design, or city planning. They have created a range of vastly different city streets of creative themes that make an engaging display altogether.
Thank you to Elyse Derricott and Year 8 Art students, for the amazing Art displays throughout our campus.
Students have also been working on product design for a while this semester. Students have started with making and designing cartons. In partners, they have started to design skateboard decks and advertisement posters for their prproductsThey have been utilising their design skills and understanding of how to impact an audience in their designs.
