Celebrating Learning Growth

Congratulations to Year 7 students who lifted their Learning Behaviour report scores between Week 5 and 10 during Term 1! This was celebrated in our weekly assembly as it was quite a challenge for students to keep organised and maintain a positive work ethic while moving through busy weeks of subject learning tasks and Common Assessment Tasks (CATs). Teachers have highlighted that our Year 7s have returned from the Easter break with a similar spirit of engagement in a wide range of experiences, many captured in the photos.

Taking Care on the Internet

Police presented students with an up-to-date insight into Consent and Online Cyber Safety. The important messages included: Don’t send nudes, Consent can be withdrawn at any time, and Be Respectful. This topic and student questions will be followed up during Homegroup sessions in the near future. A reminder that Stymie.com.au is anonymously always ready to listen and so are we.

Grade 5 and 6 Awareness Days and Information Evening

We really appreciate how 30+ students stepped forward to be leaders for our primary school visitors last week. Awareness Day combined core subject lessons and activities such as timetable, campus orientation, ice-breaker ‘get to know you’ games, Woodwork, Art, Drama and Music, and competitive Sport. Recess and lunchtime continued the energy with a snack, popular lunch, DJ music, dancing, footy and basketball. Others chose to try out the playgrounds and talk to Kurnai staff including advocates.

Leadership skills for our 2023 volunteers included participating, encouraging, explaining, and modelling respectful behaviour.

Brave volunteers also attended our Churchill Campus 2024 Year 7 Parent Information Evening where they led tours, explained facilities, routines and answered questions.

Art

Cloud Creatures

Year 7s have been working on several projects.

The first project has been cloud creatures. Beings that have a cloud body, but arms, legs, and heads of animals. Students have drawn, coloured in, and then cut out their creatures. These creatures are now floating in the library sky.

Mutated Creatures

The second project was mutated creatures and plants that the Earth has weaponised to kill the nasty pests called humans who are destroying the world. Students have designed, drawn, and painted with watercolour paints their mutated creatures that are creeping along the year 7 corridor.

Contrasting Colours

The third project was all about working with bright complementary and contrasting colours that were set on a black background. Students have learned how to use pastels.
