From the Principal

Benvenuto - Welcome
Cari amici
Our celebration of St Anne’s Feast day proved to be a memorable occasion and the beginning of a tradition to honour St Anne as our patron. All students were very respectful, did their best and helped make our day a success. I had many comments from visitors on the manner in which the children presented themselves. This is a credit to you as parents. Thank you.
As a part of our ceremony, Charlie Guppy, made a pledge on behalf of all our students. Our Director commented on the pledge and I thought I’d share it with you.
God of Wisdom
In your presence here with us today
I pledge, on behalf of the students of St Anne’s College
That we will build a Catholic Education Community fostering faith, wisdom and learning, inspired by your love.
We promise to do our best, help others succeed and respect everyone and everything.
We call on St Anne, William Cooper, Maria Montessori, St Gerard Majella and Nora Charles to guide us in all we do, as we strive to bring forth kindness, peace and hope to those we encounter.
With such a pledge, I am confident that we are in good hands and our world will be a better place with such capable and competent children, future leaders of the world.
We also had many comments on the school uniform and how lovely it is. It is timely reminder that students have a choice in what they wear from a vast range of uniform items. Our Year Sevens in particular have particular days when they can wear their sports uniform. Please make sure your child is the correct uniform each day, in particular plain white or navy socks.
August 8 marks the Feast Day of St Mary Mackillop of the Cross, Australia’s only saint. This is the day that Mary was officially recognised as a saint by the Vatican. Mary was an amazing lady establishing schools in Rushworth and Numurkah. You can read more about her in the Catholic Identity section.
On August 15 it is the Feast of the Assumption Mary. Catholics around the world mark the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, commemorating the end of her earthly life and assumption into Heaven. The Feast of the Assumption is marked as a major feast day and a public holiday in many countries. In most countries, including Australia, it is a Holy Day of Obligation, and Catholics are required to attend Mass. As such St Anne’s College will be attending Mass at St Mel’s Church, on Thursday August 15, and we will be joined by St Mel’s School and local parishioners. Mass will commence at 12:00 p.m. and we will travel by bus, leaving St Anne’s at about 11:30. The Foundation class will go from there to basketball and the Year Sevens will return to St Anne’s immediately after. You are all welcome to join us in this celebration.
A reminder to all father figures – have you organised yourself to bring the kids along to the movie night on August 14? We have a sausage sizzle to start followed by Mr Mom. Popcorn provided. BYO water bottles. $10 per family payable on CDFCpay. RSVP by Tuesday August 13.
Learning Conversations for Term Three will be held on August 19, 20 and 21. Learning conversations provide a good opportunity to get feedback on your child’s learning and are a conversation between the child, parent and learning mentor. These appointments can be booked on PAM.
St Anne’s College Board will conduct its first Annual General Meeting on Thursday August 22, commencing at 6:00 p.m. This will be followed by a general meeting. The meeting will be held at St Anne’s College and you are all welcome to attend. At this meeting we will be calling for any new members to join the general committee.
Please see outline of the meeting in the St Anne’s College Board page of il giornale.
This term we will join St Mel’s Education Community for an athletics day on Tuesday September 10 at the Athletics Track. More to come. Save the date.
