NAPLAN
Students in Years 7 & 9 are currently undertaking the NAPLAN Online tests during the period 14th to 24th May.
The students have trialed the online testing process and are prepared for the testing process. All they need to do now in their preparation is to have a good night's sleep the day before and a healthy nutritious breakfast prior.
Please refer to the schedule for the upcoming assessments.
Formulation of a P&C
Armidale Secondary College community is invited to attend a special public meeting to move a resolution to create a P&C Association and to formulate a working group in order to do so.
The meeting will be held in the staff common room and we anticipate should not take longer than an hour at most.
A P&C Association enables parents and citizens to meet to determine the needs and aspirations of the school community.
Furthermore, it is a great way to be involved in your child's school whilst also providing invaluable support to the school, staff and students.
Uniforms
Currently at Armidale Secondary College there are a number of students who are not complying with the school dress code. The wearing of uniform at Armidale Secondary College was endorsed by the Parents and Citizen’s association (Armidale High and Duval High) and has been the result of consultation with the wider school community.
The wearing of school uniform is covered by the NSW Public Schools Behaviour Code for Students (2015) ‘…In NSW public schools students are expected to comply with the schools’ uniform policy or dress code’. The wearing of school uniform is a health and safety consideration at Armidale Secondary College as our grounds are largely unfenced; and any strangers can quickly be identified if students comply with the dress code.
The school is committed to working with students and families to ensure compliance with the school uniform. We would ask for your help and support in ensuring that your son/daughter has the correct uniform items. The winter terms do require students to consider wearing extra layers underneath their uniform (long sleeve t shirts etc.) rather than non-uniform items over the top of the uniform.
The school is selling the official winter coats for $60 and jumpers are available at local retailers. Jeans and black leggings are NOT part of the approved uniform and students are encouraged not to wear these items to school.
If you are experiencing difficulty acquiring the necessary uniform items please make contact with the school as soon as possible so that assistance can be offered where necessary.
Batyr Visit
Batyr offers a range of programs that 'give a voice to the elephant in the room' - aiming to smash the stigma of mental health and encourage young people to reach out for help when they need it.
Batyr has been speaking with students in years 9, 10, 11 and 12. More details on our school website.
Earn & Learn
The Woolworths Earn & Learn initiative is one that benefits our school with valuable resources that benefit our support unit and sporting faculty.
Please either put your vouchers in the ASC bin at Woolworths or return to our school office where we have another collection point.
Eisteddfod
The Armidale Eisteddfod is underway and we wish our many talented students all the best in their events! Please let us know of your successes as we would love to celebrate with you.
Request to parents/carers - if your child will be leaving school to attend an Eisteddfod event, please can you notify the school beforehand, either in writing or by telephone call. Thank you.
Professional Learning
Professional learning at Armidale Secondary College is paramount for us to build the capacity of all staff and implement learning that has positive impacts on student learning. As a college, we are responding to research-informed professional learning that places greater weight on staff working collaboratively to build their skills rather than turning to external providers. Of course, when necessary, staff have access to external professional learning. This was the case, in particular, in Term One as staff targeted the implementation of new syllabus documents and wellbeing programs.
A sample of the professional learning our staff have undertaken in Term One includes, but is not limited to, VET compliance, faculty planning days and evenings, workshops with NESA, beginning teacher inductions, new syllabus training, change management, wellbeing training and mentoring of staff.
