Great news! Our school received a grant to install reversible basketball/netball rings on the netball courts. We are truly grateful to Mr Josh Burns MP for his support in helping the school receive this grant of $16,000, as well as the Local Schools Community Fund of $10,000 for the purchase of an interactive SMART Board for our classroom.
The 2019 Annual Report is presented to the school community at our ‘Reporting to Parents Evening’ held on Monday 23 March at 6:30 PM. All parents are cordially invited to attend this meeting. Please RSVP at the front office or via email if you are attending, this is to ensure we have enough copies of the report for all who attend. The 2019 Annual Report will also be available on Compass and on the school website.
We are conducting School Council elections as we have received more nominations than positions available. On Tuesday your child will be given an envelope containing the School Council ballot papers and voting information.
Please return your ballot papers as follows: -

Reminding parents that the school is closed during the Australian Grand Prix on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th March. This is a great opportunity for students and parents to have an extended long weekend. It is not a holiday for the staff, we will be working off campus during these two days. The first day will be spent having a consistent approach to our Curiosity (Inquiry) Learning by using the LAUNCH Framework based on the research of John Spencer. On the second day teachers will be trained in a new spelling program called SMART Spelling. This program goes back to basics, and complements the THRASS approach that we use here at South Melbourne Park. Teachers start by teaching the meaning of words to expand vocabulary and then break words into syllables, sounds and letter patterns.
Term 1 swimming starts on 17th March for students in Year 1-6. We want ALL students to be able to participate in this experience; however, reality is that not all students will be able to attend due to genuine financial reasons. If you would like to assist, by donating $88 please contact the office.
Parents are reminded that the Department of Education and Training does not provide personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for students. Parents and guardians or students, who do not have student accident insurance/ambulance cover, are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance or transport as well as any other transport costs.
