Positive Feedback

The below feedback was emailed to the school from an off duty Policeman regarding our students selling poppies for Legacy!

"Today at about 12.40pm I was off duty (not in uniform) and shopping at Woolworths Hamilton.

I saw two of your male students in school uniform, sitting outside the store selling poppies for Legacy.

Whilst I was waiting to buy a poppy from them, they served a couple of other people.

Both of the boys were polite, engaging and a delight to speak with.

Their community spirit and demeanour is a credit to them, their parents and your school.

With young people like this in our community, the future is bright.

Poppy Planting

As part of the lead up to Remembrance Day observations in HAMILTON Baimbridge students have been busy making and planting plastic poppies. This has been a cooperative effort along with the local RSL. Pictures show the whole cohort of Year 7’s busy placing them at the Cenotaph. Mr Constantine, our Art leader deserves great credit for his organisation and devotion to this work. Well done to our Year 7’s as well.

Remembrance Day

The Year 7’s and our current school captains and some of our new school leaders were present along with our Principal and YLC’s to ensure a strong representative presence was felt at the HAMILTON ceremony last Monday. Daniel Battista honoured the day with a moving speech and was supported by our other leaders laying a wreath. All Yr 7’s were thanked by the RSL for their poppy planting and it was pleasing how connected they all felt.

Daniel Battista's Speech:

"Good morning to everyone, and firstly I would like to extend my thank you on being asked to share what Remembrance Day means to me.

As I was pondering this question, it made me realise that the etched feeling of gratefulness that I feel on this day, is not the same for everyone touched by war.

Millennials, such as I, can remember the times in which we stopped everything in class to stand silent for a minute. We remember the history lessons that taught of the ANZAC's that battled not only the Turkish on April 25th 1915, but the low light and near vertical terrain that saw anything by bloodshed an impossibility. We remember the phrases from the ode, Flander's Field, and even Red Gum's song "I was only 19" but we cant truly understand what life is like living in the fear of war. This is only due to the humans that took it upon themselves to be valiant, brave and selfless to fight wars conducted by people that believed these lives were no equal to their greed.

Partners were the driving force of the nation that placed the foundations that kept our country running in times of war. When they see people selling poppies, what does it remind them of? The time when they were left to look after their children by themselves, as their loved ones left because they had to, as the posters demanded "To arms, our country needs you". Or are they brought to tears of happiness because they were the few that did see their husbands, sons or brothers again.

For the men and women who have seen the horrors that happened on the lands of Turkey, Tobruk, Vietnam and Afghanistan just to name a few. What do they think and feel in the minute silence? I can only imagine that scars resurface with days such as today illuminating the loss of mates, limbs and lifestyle that were all waiting when they returned home.

I now think of these people on the 11th day of the 11th month as the ones who I owe the life I live to, and so does everyone that is a part of our nation. I believe the commonality that everyone that knows the tales of these men and women should share is the conclusion that without their sacrifice, we may very well have never got the chance to be here today. We should reflect on the extent that these people gave up, and as individulas, strive to live the best life we can as we have been given the opportunity. This is what Remembrance Day means to me.

2020 School Bus Travel

The School Bus Management System is now accepting travel applications for the 2020 school year.

Existing families have been notified by the system about the need to submit their child’s 2020 travel application.

Submitting 2020 travel applications

Login to the School Bus Management System at https://schoolbusapplication.ptv.vic.gov.au/ and complete one of the following actions.

Existing Travellers - Families with children who require continued travel (e.g. same residential address and same school) must Renew Applications for Term 1 2020, or
Existing Travellers - Families with children who have changed residential address and/or school, must create a New Application for Term 1 2020, or
New Travellers - Families with children who have never previously travelled on a school bus, must Add Traveller/Child, then create a New Application for Term 1 2020.
- If family previously used the School Bus Management System, then login to the system using existing family account details.
- However, families may need to Register and create a new account if no other siblings have previously travelled.

*** New accounts should only be created where families have not had access to the School Bus Management System ***

What is the timeline for 2020 applications

Travel applications for 2020 must be submitted prior to 29 November 2019. Applications received after this date will be processed after the initial round of travel offers have been made.

Travel offers will be made to families early December 2019. Families will then have four weeks to manage their travel offer before it lapses.

Our canteen is in desperate need of volunteers. With limited names on the roster in 2020 (thank you thank you thank you for your contribution to our school to those who have volunteered) we are calling for volunteers.

We do not care how long you can give. One hour will be better than nothing.
