Vinnies Container Deposit Scheme

Vinnies Container Deposit Scheme Launches at Mater Dei

Last week we launched our Container Deposit Scheme, in association with St Vincent de Paul in Wagga Wagga. In response to the introduction of the New South Wales Government’s Return and Earn scheme, that we’re all familiar with, Vinnies has embraced the opportunity to become a collection partner. They have called on our support to develop a container deposit scheme to rollout in Schools and communities around the country.

As such, Vinnies has provided us with 15 large blue bins, that have been placed around our College. They will be emptied regularly and it will be the responsibility of the SRC and the SJ Leaders to monitor and move them to the collection point each week. No upfront or on-going costs will be incurred by our School and we will share in making regular weekly, monetary donations to Vinnies, through our recycling efforts.

  1. Their slogan is ‘a container a week is all we seek’ and this creates for us a goal to be mindful of everytime we place an item into the rubbish. The most important consideration in recycling is being informed and purposeful with our decision making. Vinnies Blue School Collection Bins are ONLY for Recycling and NOT for general waste.

The only items students may place into these bins are empty fruit boxes, milk cartons, plastic soft drink or water bottles and cans. There is no need to crush them, please just place them in. At School there will be no ability to collect glass bottles of any kind.

The Vinnies Bulk Container Deposit Depot is also now open to the public, it’s located at 90 Hammond Avenue, near Narellan Pools and accepts a wider array of recyclables. Here you can either choose to return and earn, or donate your 10 cents per item to Vinnies. It offers a drive-through service and fast automated processing without the need to pre-sort items. Please consider utilising this service in the future.
