Malmo Scholarship

The Inaugural Jakob and Jeannie Malmo Tertiary Scholarship

Jeannie and Jakob Malmo have generously donated the funds to cover an annual scholarship for a student in Year 12 at Maffra Secondary College who is continuing to study towards a University Degree. The recipient of this award receives $30,000, in the form of an annual stipend of $10,000 per year for each of the first 3 years of a university course.

Jakob Malmo has a longstanding connection to Maffra Secondary College. He was a student in the last form at the Maffra Higher Elementary School (1954) and was in the first form 5 at the newly established Maffra High School (1955). The teaching and training that he received during his time at Maffra enabled him to study at the University of Melbourne then the University of Sydney to complete a Bachelor of Veterinary Science Degree. Until his recent retirement he practised as a cattle veterinarian in the Maffra area. Jeannie Malmo has experience initially as a teacher, then as a primary school principal over a very long career. It is this passion for education and their connection to Maffra that has driven their decision to continue supporting the further education for one Year 12 student from our College each year from now on.

Deciding the inaugural scholarship recipient was a very challenging task for the panel with so many great applicants. I would like to congratulate all of those young people who applied. You are all outstanding individuals with a diverse range of skills and dreams. Everyone was a very worthy candidate.

The recipient of Jakob and Jeannie Malmo Tertiary Scholarship is Jasmin Underwood.

Jasmin has attended Maffra Secondary College since Year 7. She has maintained strong academic achievements and has immersed herself in many co-curricular activities and leadership opportunities throughout her schooling.

Outside of school, Jasmin is an active member of local sporting clubs, works part time in the community and throughout these endeavours has developed a strong community connection and sense of belonging. She has a strong passion for Science and a caring nature which has led her to dream of a career in the health sector.

Congratulations

Jas!
