And that’s a wrap…
It’s been a hot week for sport at Essex Heights! All the classes were given extra drink breaks and we also aim to either SEEK shade outdoors or use the indoor gymnasium.
The Summer SunSmart program during Term 1 aims to – slip, slop, slap, seek and slide! Can you match the actions to the nouns? I can give you a clue - Slap on a hat!
We have also had a busy week within our Waverley District. The Monash Waverley Division swimming meet was held on Tuesday. The day began with some relief as the clouds stayed for the main part of the morning. The outdoor pool was cool and clear. All of our Essex Heights students swam great races, we are proud of your excellent efforts.
We wish them all the best for their future in secondary competition and club swimming. It has been a pleasure to have you represent Essex so well over the years.
Jayden and Ethan will be representing Essex Heights in the Eastern Metropolitan Region swimming competition held at Aquanation on Friday 25 March. We wish you speed and grace.
Also, this week we have been preparing our District Tennis Squad. An expression of interest, along with a current grading gave 16 budding tennis champions time out of the classroom to battle it out on the court. After a quick walk to Federal Reserve, the students began warming up as the parents mopped the courts. The rain held off enough for the students to play to six games for a match. More boys had shown an interest so we capped the trial off this morning. This morning the boys played first to four games with a tie break at 3:3, Eric and Max’s match played out for 50 minutes with seven deuces!!
Our Tennis Squad trial is Game, Set and Match filled with some very talented youngsters. A huge congratulations for all the students who put themselves into the draw. These experiences are fantastic opportunities for self-growth and discovery. You all played like champions.
What a week! All the inter-school sports teams have done such an amazing job. As well as having so much fun and encouragement, we have also become more confident in ourselves and in our team. From my own perspective, being in the softball girls' team, I lacked some confidence at the beginning of the game. However, as we settled into the game, our team were really encouraging and supportive cheering everyone on. They also cheered the other team on. It was great to hear how other inter-school sports teams were also being supportive. How wonderful to see so much good sportsmanship being demonstrated!
Essex Heights had a great day winning many of the sports events against Glendal. Let's see if we can maintain our track record or even improve! Overall, the inter-school sports have been such a great experience and I am really looking forward to playing again next week!
