Buddies

Prep - Year 5 Lunch Meetup

Last Friday, 25 February, Prep and Year 5 students met for the first time to eat lunch together and get to know one another. They were able to spend time connecting over their transition to school and common interests.

The purpose of the Buddy program is to help Prep students transition smoothly into the school community, promoting a sense of belonging, whilst also providing Year 5 students with a sense of pride, leadership and responsibility. The program promotes the Essex Heights school values and expectations of being safe, being responsible, and being a learner.

Here are a few words from the Year 5 cohort summarising their lunchtime experience with the Preps.

“My buddy and I played ‘teachers’ with a group of friends and we had a great time! We even built trees out of sticks!”

“We went to the sandpit with some of my buddies and friends and built sandcastles.”

“My buddy was really amazing, nice and cute! He shared with me and it was really fun!”

“I learnt that my buddy could count to 100!”

“My buddy explained that he likes school so far. Everyone is really nice.”

All the students were so excited to meet their buddies and it was such a positive experience watching all the students work together and get to know each other.
