Teaching and Learning Focus: Reading Journals

This year your child/ren have been given a take-home Reading Journal. This journal will give students, teachers and parents the opportunity to track reading done outside of school hours.

The importance of making a regular habit of reading can’t be underestimated. In addition to creating confident and strong readers, regular and sustained reading at home has many benefits, including:

  • Creating daily habits;
  • Improving students' ability to concentrate;
  • Developing knowledge;
  • Developing vocabulary;
  • Improving student writing.

We encourage parents to listen to children reading, as age-appropriate, and ask questions about the book your child is reading. Teachers will check the journals on a regular basis.
