UNITE: On Friday the 18th of Februrary, SCSC held their Swimming Carnival. The event ran very well with the odd rain delay or two in the midst.  Well done to Bird Rock house who were the overall winners for the day.

It is sad news as SCSC sees James Ashley leaving us in a few weeks’ time to take an to take an ongoing role at Kardinia College.

James first joined SCSC in 2012 volunteering for one day a week whilst studying and working with Year 9/10 boys in particular, who thrived in his presence.

At the beginning of 2012, James was employed at SCSC as a Chaplain and worked with a number of students throughout the College.  He made an immediate impact at our college and certainly helped build a fantastic culture which is still evident today.

James was thrust into many roles including bus driving, camps, excursions, maintenance, cooking and of course always assisting students with their emotional needs.

James is an incredibly talented trades person and he used these skills in a number of projects with students around the school. This led to the beginning of an impressive Hands-On-Learning program which is now recognised as one of the best in the state thanks to James’s skills, talents and nurturing of our students.

His skills also extended to cooking and he began preparing meals with students for the Salvos Outreach van. This has now developed into a valued component of our VCAL program.

James’s influence in the Surf Coast community has been profound. His outstanding communication skills along with his kind, caring and empathetic approach has endeared himself to everyone.  James is the ultimate team player and always has the welfare of the student first and foremost in his heart and mind.  James is able to make students, staff and parents feel special but it is he that is truly valued and special to SCSC.

His legacy will be everlasting and we cannot thank him enough for his contributions.

Thanks so much James, for sharing your knowledge, skills and expertise, but above all sharing your beautiful, nurturing and caring ways for all of us here.

It has been a privilege to have you as part of our team and we know that Kardinia College are very fortunate to have you on their staff.

All the Best Legend!
