Dear parents, carers and friends of the school community,

As we settle into the school year and navigate the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the school will endeavour to promote and support the mental health and wellbeing of our students and staff. The Department of Education have recently released a range of resources and supports for schools, teachers, students and families to support student mental health and wellbeing.

The 'Quick Guide to Student Mental Health and Wellbeing', provides tips for parents and carers to support their child's mental and physical health and wellbeing. This includes resources for:

  • Looking after your child’s wellbeing
  • Looking after your child’s mental health
  • Wellbeing activities for parents of primary school students

Student Attendance

Daily school attendance is important for young people to succeed in education and to ensure they don’t fall behind both socially and developmentally.  Young people who regularly attend school have better health outcomes, better employment outcomes, and higher incomes across their lives.

Jacana School for Autism supports our students to develop important skills, knowledge and values which set them up for further learning and participation in their community. The school places great importance in all students being at school on time, every day the school is open for instruction.

We understand that sometimes getting your child to school may be difficult. We support our school community by working with parents/carers and external services to improve student attendance and to discuss strategies that will support smoother transitions and school engagement.

If you would like to discuss strategies regarding attendance, please do not hesitate to contact your classroom teacher and/or Sub-School Leader to arrange a meeting.
