Library Catalogue

We are excited to announce that the new Library catalogue is up and running. The link to it can be found via the Star dropdown in Compass. Students can now search for books and make reservations, as well as leave reviews and ratings. We will continue to add extra features to it as the year progresses. Also keep an eye on the New Items scrolling list on the front page – we have lots of exciting new books arriving and can’t wait to get them into the hands of our readers.

But I don’t like to read

may be something you hear in your home. When we are told this in the Library we take the time to talk about stories. Everyone loves to be told a story, whether the medium is a book, film, podcast, TV or streaming service, YouTube, magazines or games. Once you think about the sort of stories you like, finding a book that you will enjoy becomes that much easier. Our reading collection is broken up into themes, such as Adventure, Romance, Mystery, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Sport, and many more, making it that much easier to find something of interest. Encourage your student to come into the Library and have a browse, or to ask a Library team member for help finding something. Remember, reading regularly and widely helps with comprehension and spelling, improves your vocabulary, and can help increase empathy and understanding by allowing you to ‘live’ other people’s lives and see the world through their eyes for a short while.

Library Mural

Late last year we received a grant which partly went to painting a mural inside the Library. The artist held workshops with Indigenous students to create a mural reflecting their heritage. Thanks to Chris Leunig, one of our English and Media staff members, we have a time lapse video you can watch showing the painting process over 4 days in December 2021.
