University of Melbourne 2022 Girl Power in Engineering & IT program
This four-year program includes a three-night camp at the University of Melbourne in Year 9, work experience in year 10 and mentoring opportunities in year 11 and 12. To participate in the subsequent stages of the program, students must have participated in the Girl Power in Engineering and IT camp whilst in Year 9. Further information about this four-stage program can be found here. Details about Stage 1 and where to submit an expression of interest can be found below.
Stage 1: Year 9 students
Commencing in Year 9, approximately 40 students are selected to participate in the camp during the July term holidays, where they will have the opportunity to:
- Learn about careers in engineering and IT
- Participate in hands-on interactive workshops
- Interact with University of Melbourne engineering and IT students
- Hear from industry and our academic staff about engineering and IT issues
- Form a network of like-minded individuals
Current Year 9 students can register their expression of interest here. These registrants will then be emailed a link in March to submit a detailed application.

Become a Swim Teacher for Splash’s Learn to Swim Program
Splash’s Swim School is again recruiting secondary school students for casual and part time employment as swim teachers and teaching assistants at their centres in Berwick, Dandenong and Pakenham. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age, reliable, energetic and work well in a team. Swim teaching is an excellent opportunity for students that are interested in future careers in:
- early childhood, primary or secondary education;
- sport or recreation (eg: sports management, outdoor education);
- occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychology, child protection, social work;
- nursing and medicine;
- or any role that values experience in working with children of all ages and abilities, working in a dynamic environment, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to problem solve.
