Senior Boys Cricket

On Tuesday 8th February, Nossal's seniors boys cricket team headed out to Berwick Springs Recreational Reserve for the first round of cricket for 2022, playing two games. Surprisingly, both games were on turf meaning that players unused to turf had to learn very quickly. Winning the toss first game against Berwick, we elected to bowl first. Crandel Siegelwin bowled exceptionally well to finish with 3/4 and Suraj Ram wasn’t too far behind capturing 3/6. This fantastic bowling helped consolidate a good effort in the field and we restricted Berwick to just 42 runs. Jaskabeer Singh helped chase down the total with a solid batting performance of 27 not out. The next game was against Gleneagles, where our boys elected to bowl first once again, but this time the other team closed their innings with a total of 62. Tanish bowled very tightly for us and was instrumental in keeping the target an achievable one. Quite a tough chase for the team and Arvindeep Chumber assisted in closing the chase  with an 11 not out. It went down to the last over and we were 8 wickets down, still needing 5 runs to win. Nervous times indeed.  But we did win and now it is on to the next round.

Overall, a great day for cricket and both teams we played deserve credit for being tough opponents and playing the games in excellent spirit.

Intermediate boys Cricket

On Tuesday 8th February, the Nossal Intermediate Boys Cricket Team, coached by Mr Haverfield, set off to Lawson Pool Reserve with a hope to get into regionals. When the boys arrived, the two opposing teams were about to start their game, Glen Eagles vs Berwick College. After Berwick quite convincingly got the win, it was time for Nossal to show our power against Glen Eagles. Winning the toss, skipper Ronin and the squad decided to bat first. After a good opening knock by Neel Patel, and some good middle order batting by Ronit and Pamod, Nossal were able to set a target of 57 in 60 balls. After a rough start we were able to get back into the game with a couple of quick wickets from Shaurya, Ronin and Paarth. In the end, Nossal were able to grab their first win of the day but the day didn't end there.

The Nossal Boys hardly got any time off the field before they were back on to bowl against Berwick college. This match would decide who moves on to regionals. We started off with 3 wickets by Shaurya and a couple from Ronin, we were able to restrict Berwick to a low score of 46. Nossal were easily able to chase the target of 47 thanks to the explosive batting of Neel and the composed batting of Bhanu keeping a steady pace to send us to the finals. Throughout the two games, there were some great catches taken by Mohammed, Bhanu and Shaurya, but the best catch of the day was by far Om Patel's dramatic backward diving one handed ripper. With some great all rounding performances of fielding and wonderful keeping by Ryan, Nossal move on to regional quarter finals to face more of a challenge on October 12th.
