Leadership Report

Dear families,

Dehlia attended a Principal's Conference a few weeks ago, which was very successful. Thank you to Sam who stepped up into the role of Principal in Dehlia’s absence. During the conference it was evident that our school’s strategic direction aligns with that of the Queensland Education Department in terms of pathways for our students, inclusiveness and innovation. At the conference Educational Precincts were mentioned and that schools need to work together and look for opportunities to support all of the students in their schools. Our school has formed informal partnerships with Parkhurst State School (Primary) and North Rockhampton High School (Secondary) over the past year. Due to the partnerships, our schools strengthened our use of technology and in specific iPads as well as the implementation of Collegial Engagement. Our secondary students made connections with the high school students and attended various programs. We aim to open our doors to other high school students in our local area to attend the VET programs we deliver.

We have made connections with Darumbal Enterprises and in specific Brendon Butler. He is our local artist and we initiated conversations with him to design our schools’ artwork for the new buildings. He is very much onboard and the theme of ‘meeting place’, communities coming together, and our school values have been integral to our conversation and in the development of our artwork.

We are excited to introduce our ‘Community Conversations’ group. Our aim is for parents to informally meet monthly over a cuppa on Friday mornings. Please be on the lookout for dates on our Facebook page or in the newsletters. We hope to provide guest speakers or information during these sessions. Our first ‘Community Conversation’ meeting will be on Friday the 18th of November at 9:30 to 11:00. Our guest speaker will be Mona Elkhishin who will be sharing the support options our families are able to access. The Coffee Van 4U2U will be parked at our school so parents are able to purchase lovely hot drinks. In doing so, we support a local business.

We have been developing our school SunSmart policy that has been approved by the P&C. Families are able to access the Policy on our school's website.

Our construction is well underway for the completion of firstly, our new carpark. We anticipate that this will be completed in Week 6 and therefore our parents and visitors will be able to use the new carpark and temporary office, inside the library. The construction has been delayed of late, due to the weather, but we appreciate the hard work the team is putting in for the completion of these areas. Once our carpark is complete, the builders will commence work on the new double-storey building. We are working to create spaces that will enrich the learning of our students. Please keep an eye out for communication regarding the changes in administration and parking etc.

Our school PBL Team, staff and students are continuing to work hard on the strategies and learning involved to continue with a positive behaviour for learning. The PBL team is currently working on our 2023-Tiered Fidelity Plan to prioritise plans for problem solving and implementation across the school. Our schools Effective Behaviour Supports (EBS) survey for 2022 is still open for the remainder of the week. Please use this link to complete the survey: https://survey.qed.qld.gov.au/n/axGhDZJ

We are currently working on putting together some casual reading workshops for parents/carers to chat with Amy, our Acting Head of Curriculum and other parents/carers about reading at home. We are hoping to support you in building a love of reading in your child and would love to know when we should hold the sessions. If you are interested in attending, we have sent out a survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/rnssreadingsessions.

Or you can ask to speak to Amy next time you are at school.

Due to our Leadership Teams’ lovely newsletter article in the previous edition we decided to continue with this trend. Therefore, our community will receive the Leadership Report instead of the Principal's Report.

Have a fabulous week everybody 😊

Kind regards,

Dehlia, Sam, Amy & Alana
