Passport to Employment Program

Hayden Sinclair Year 11 was involved in the P2E program, this program runs for eight weeks and builds employability, communication, and life skills in young people with a disability. The program aims to help students explore pathways into further education, employment, and community after school. Hayden graduated on Friday 9 September, in a very proud moment. This is a reflection of Hayden’s hard work and commitment. The Senior Sub School and wider college community want to congratulate Hayden on his effort and achievements through his participation in this program.

Celebration Day

Our Year 12 students celebrated their final day of their High School journey on Tuesday 18 October, all students who participated in the day should be proud of their behaviour and conduct, it was a true celebration of them as individuals and as a cohort. The Senior Sub School were so proud of their mature outlook on the day which involved fun and positivity. We wish them all the best for their upcoming exams, future education and work.

VCAA Exams

The VCAA Exam period has begun, and students have been busy in preparation for these exams throughout the year and especially the weeks leading up to their English exam to start them off on Wednesday 26 October. The exam period will run until Wednesday 16 November and students are reminded to check the timetable and their navigator book for all information regarding their exams, equipment and expectations.

We want to wish all our students sitting the VCAA exams all the best.

VCAL Interviews

During the first two weeks of Term 4 our Year 12 VCAL students sat their final interviews and shared their success and challenges across the year in their VCAL studies. This was a fantastic opportunity for the students to not only share their work, but to also demonstrate the skills they have learnt throughout the year. It was a pleasure to be a part of this process and see how much confidence students have developed across their final year of schooling.

Our Year 11 VCAL students will commence their group interview process when the VCE students complete their Unit 2 exams in Week 6. VCAL teachers will be busily preparing students for this group interview and students will be able to share their work with their peers, and seek feedback on their presentation.

Kokoda

My name is Wendy, currently a Year 11 student at North Geelong Secondary College, who was fortunate enough to trek the Kokoda track. I was one of the many students who was nominated for such an amazing experience and was lucky enough, to be selected. I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to go on this trip because I’m from Papua New Guinea, which sparked my interest to go, and because I was told of the amazing things the trip would do for me. For example, building my resilience and confidence, which were things I struggled with before I went to Kokoda. It was a life changing experience that made me a more motivated, confident and resilient person. Walking Kokoda proved to me that even in doubt you can still do things you didn’t know you were capable of, and I will carry that with me every day of my life from now on. It’s not an easy thing to do. Kokoda was by far the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, but also such an eye-opening and gifting experience. Thank you to the Geelong Kokoda Youth Program for shaping me into the person I am and will forever be!
