Alumni News

When Kate Wingad, from the class of 2001, returned to MFG in 2018 to speak to current students about her work as an engineer, I had no idea she had survived, what could have been, a fatal accident. Her injury had not defined her.

At the time of her visit, she was juggling working on the West Gate Tunnel project with being a mum, however, was quick to say how well supported she was by her family, particularly her ex-physics teacher, father who had kept a promise he had made to her years prior.

Kate was passionate about her profession and an advocate for women following STEM related pathways. She was real, relatable, and honest, claiming that she wasn't necessarily a natural A-grade student, she just worked hard.

In this article, Kate credits MFG, and being part of the first cohort of the Accelerated Learning Program, for making her work harder as she was "no longer the smartest kid in the room."

Congratulations, Kate Wingad on your role as the Deputy Director of Rail Project Victoria and for being the amazing role model that you are.

We would love to welcome you back to MFG again, in the not-too-distant future, to share your experiences with our students.
