Week 5

Learning News

It is difficult to believe that we are halfway through our last term of the year!  Already our calendar is filling up with end of year items, excursions and lots of opportunities for learning. In just this week we have had K-2 attend a Capitol Theatre performance of Edward the Emu in Tamworth and our 3-6 students enjoy a gala day with Barraba right here at home.  Along with working on paragraphing in our writing sessions, learning about Asia in Geography in Stage 2, a focus on data in Stage 3 maths and creative learning in our Infants classrooms. Busy, busy, busy.

Kindergarten

This week as part of our book study, Kindergarten enjoyed reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. As part of reading the picturebook, we learned about the lifecycle of a butterfly. We acted out the four stages of the lifecycle and watched a short informative video. We discovered that caterpillars make a chrysalis. On Thursday we made our own lifecycle artwork using different shaped pasta like a spiral, bowtie and conchiglie, to represent the stages. We finished off our fun art with a delicious butterfly ‘bow-tie’ pasta meal made by Mrs Mac. Thank you Mrs McNair!

Stage 1

To conclude their creation unit in Religion, Stage 1 were asked to think about their favourite part of creation and draw it. They then had to write a prayer of thanks to God. The drawings were then collected and made into a class prayer book.

Stage 2

This week Stage 2 have been learning about Area in Maths. The students have learnt to use the equation A=LxW to find the area of a variety of shapes. To extend the students' learning, we created our own metre square measurements and the students measured multiple larger areas such as the classroom, the stage area and the ramp. Well Done Stage 2, Miss McDonald and Mr Beaumont.

Stage 3

In Religion, Stage 3 have been discussing and exploring the seven Sacraments, in particular Holy Orders. The students thought about what kind of person it takes to be a Priest or a Deacon. With this wondering, Father Curran was invited in to discuss his journey and answer any questions the students had about becoming a Priest and Priesthood. The students asked intriguing questions, discovered new information and were able to chat with Father Curran about his journey. Thank you to Father Curran for giving up your time to speak to Stage 3 and sharing your stories with us.
