Completion of Our Happy Habitats Project

This week we have completed our Happy Habitats project. We are very appreciative of the great work we have been able to achieve through the Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant and would like to thank them for their generous contribution to our project. On Tuesday 8 November Mr Jim Maxwell and Mr Ivan Turnbull from the Men’s Shed presented the school with 2 bird nesting boxes. We would like to thank them and all involved from the Men’s Shed for supporting St Michael’s to help look after the environment.

At St Michael’s we are very passionate about looking after the environment and the grant has enabled us to create Happy Habitats for the native wildlife in our school grounds and grow in our awareness of ways to encourage and support biodiversity in our school playground, as we strive to live more sustainably. Since receiving the grant earlier in the year we have had many students volunteering their time to create our native garden that will attract our native birds, look after our bushtucker garden put together our new worm farm, build 3 insect hotels and with the assistance of the Men’s Shed help prepare 2 bird nesting boxes. We have also been able to provide the native wildlife in our school grounds with water through the installation of the large birdbath and smaller water bowl. These are important initiatives for supporting biodiversity, environmental awareness and for living more sustainably. The area has also become a place where children love to sit and chat and promotes a positive sense of wellbeing. Congratulations everyone.

Thank you

I will be on leave for the remainder of the 2022 school year and would like to thank everyone for your support this year in the area of RE and Pastoral Care and Wellbeing. We have much to be grateful for here at St Michael’s with such a caring and supportive school, parish and local community. I would especially like to thank our students for the enthusiasm and dedication that you have for all of our social justice and environmental projects - it is inspiring to see students helping others and caring for the environment. I am proud of all your efforts and achievements in contributing positively within our school and wider community. I would also like to thank Ms Emma Martin for all of the work she will be undertaking in the RE role for the remainder of the 2022 school year.
