Community

"A small act of kindness can have a very large impact on someone else."

Dear Parents and families,

There is a wonderful sense of community at Sacred Heart and over the past few weeks we have really enjoyed gathering together.

Our Art Show was a brilliant way for Mrs Liz Hyslop to showcase the extraordinary work she does with our students from Prep-Year 6.

Despite the rain the sausages kept coming and we had a huge amount of parents, grandparents and friends visit our Mackillop hall last Thursday evening to see the amazing work the students do in Visual Arts. Thankyou to the P & F for co-ordinating the drinks, Lollies and chips and a huge thanks to the 5/6 students who helped on the stall on the night. We raised a total of $780. Thanks to all the families who donated items, especially the Ackerman family for the donation of sausages and Brumby's Bakery  Sandringham for the donation of bread.

Clean up Sacred Heart

Little acts of kindness go a long way and Claudia and Annabel reminded Mr Collis and I of this last week when they decided to clean up the yard in their lunchtime. They used their own initiative to clean up our yard, what another wonderful example of our community working together  to clean up our environment.

Prep Orientation days

It has been  an absolute delight to welcome our new preps to Sacred Heart over the past few weeks on their Orientation mornings. A big thank you to Bronagh Maloney and Carol Mathias for making the mornings so fun for our new students starting in 2023. We have our last prep Orientation morning where the new preps  get to stay a little longer next week on Wednesday 9th November at 9:15am-11:30am.

LITTLE HEARTS PLAYGROUP

We had a wonderful time at Little Hearts playgroup today. Carol Mathias one of our LSO's (Learning Support Officer) came to share her musical talents with our Little Hearts. Thank you so much Carol, we had a lot of fun with maracas, bubbles and Mr Ducky.  The year 6 students were fantastic  playing and amusing our Little hearts. All pre schoolers and  babies are welcome. Next playgroup is on the 18th of November.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR

On the 14th, 15th and 16th of November we will be running a Scholastic Book Fair in our Mackillop Hall from 9:15-8:45pm and 3:15-3:45pm on each of the 3 days. A great idea to purchase Christmas presents and support our school as we receive benefits from Scholastic depending on how much is spent.

Scholastic Australia is ready to support our efforts to inspire and motivate our students to become lifelong readers! Scholastic have partnered with schools all over Australia to enhance school programs and activities to focus on this important foundational skill.

Every Scholastic Book Fair is packed with a multitude of genres, including fantasy, classics, reference, award-winners, humour, nonfiction and mystery. We believe the best selection encompasses books suitable for both girls and boys within each age group, captures their imaginations and excites them about reading.

Scholastic review  thousands of titles every year and only choose books that fit into our overall criteria. We source Scholastic titles from Australia, New Zealand, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada. In addition, we are the only Book Fair provider to source, from over 50 independent publishers worldwide to bring the best in children’s literature to your school.

You can't actually order the books online but you can make an online  payment which is like a voucher and then the students can bring along their form and choose their books. Please add your details and your receipt number to the form.

Research has shown that 15 minutes a day can make a lifetime of difference to a child’s reading ability. Other factors that help children excel in reading are:

1.            ACCESS to the best books

2.            CHOICE in what they read

3.            PRACTICE time to read

4.            FAMILY INVOLVEMENT in reading activities.

Please check out this video from Scholastic.

FRIENDLY REMINDER- No hat, no play!

Now the weather is warmer please ensure all students have their named hats at school for outdoor play and PE lessons. If they don't have their hats they will be playing in the shade as we are a sun smart school.

Good luck to the mum's netball team on Sunday. Go Sacred Heart!

Wishing you all  a wonderful and restful weekend, enjoy the sunshine.
