STAGE 1
What a Character!
This term, we have been learning about the concept of character. We have been reading and viewing lots of stories and looking at what makes a character unique. Everyone in our class has become skilled at describing characters’ physical attributes and personality traits. We also got the chance to show off our fantastic imaginations by creating our own one-of-a-kind characters. We drew dazzling illustrations and constructed smooth sentences to write fabulous character descriptions. Check out our quirky character creations below!
Stage One have been extremely busy and are having a fun end to Term Four.
Every Thursday, Stage One have enjoyed participating in swimming lessons. Many have learnt to enter the water safely, perform front and back glides unassisted, and have learnt the concepts of treading water. Some students can confidently dive into the water and swim 25 metres freestyle, breaststroke, and backstroke. Others can confidently back kick with the assistance of a kickboard.

In Maths, Stage One have been provided with opportunities to explore different situations where they can use addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Stage One have learnt that multiplication and division are related and were able to use concrete materials and drawings to show division. They were introduced to a story called ‘Teddy Bears Picnic’. It was about a teddy bear that was having a birthday party. The total guests at his party were 18. They were going to a restaurant that came in three different shapes: round (2 seats), triangle (3 seats) and square (4 seats). They needed to work out how many tables they would need so that every teddy had a seat.
We were all so impressed how they worked out the answer. Many students worked out that the square table had a remainder.
