Dear Families,
Let us Pray….
Dear Lord,
I do not know what will happen to me today — I only know that nothing will happen that was not foreseen by you and directed to my greater good from all eternity. I adore your holy and unfathomable plans, and submit to them with all my heart for love of you, the pope, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Amen.

"God will see justice done to his chosen who cry to him."
Preparing to hear God's word
When do you find time to pray? In the morning or the evening?
Have you ever felt too tired to pray?
The Gospel Story
In today’s story, Jesus tells us how important it is to keep on praying. The judge in the story gets tired of the widow who keeps nagging him, and eventually helps her. The message is this: if even the uncaring judge can respond to the persistent woman, God will surely respond to our efforts in prayer because God is full of patience, love and compassion.
The Gospel
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke 18:1-8
God will see justice done to his chosen who cry to him.
Jesus told his disciples a story about how they should keep on praying and never give up:
"In a town there was once a judge who didn't fear God or care about people.
In that same town there was a widow who kept going to the judge and saying,
'Make sure that I get fair treatment in court.'
"For a while the judge refused to do anything.
Finally, he said to himself, 'Even though I don't fear God or care about people, I will help this widow because she keeps on bothering me. If I don't help her, she will wear me out.' "
The Lord said:
"Think about what that crooked judge said. Won't God protect his chosen ones who pray to him day and night? Won't he be concerned for them? He will surely hurry and help them.
But when the Son of Man comes, will he find on this earth anyone with faith?"
The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Reflecting on the Gospel
Talk with the children about the importance of prayer in the lives of Christians.
Share with them some of your own favourite prayers.
Invite the children to name some things for which they would like to pray now.
Spend some time in silent prayer and / or pray aloud together now.
Why Pray?
Prayer is a gift given to us—and an activity expected of us—by the Lord. The Bible often says, “when you pray,” not “if you pray,” because prayer seems to be assumed of God’s followers.
Prayer is important because it makes us more like Jesus and because it reveals to us the heart and mind of God.
If we look at the life of Jesus, we see that he prayed—with others (Luke 9:28), for others (Matthew 19:13-14), and on his own (Luke 5:16, Luke 6:12). It was a fundamental part of how he approached each day and every decision, retreating faithfully to spend time with his Father.
Prayer helps us become one with the Father and have the kind of relationship Jesus had with him. The Bible is filled with stories illustrating God’s desire to have an intimate relationship with his people, and any close relationship involves communication. When two people have no contact with each other, their relationship will never advance. And since prayer is, quite simply, a conversation with God, it is how we get to know him.
The best part about prayer is that it’s a conversation that goes both directions. Yes, we will talk to God, but when we spend time with him and are willing to receive, we will also hear from him. James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
Prayer to me is simply spending time with God. I do this in our beautiful Sacred Heart Church; at Mass; walking in Cussen Park; mowing the lawn; meditating; a song; walking the labyrinth at school; with a group of students; reading the Bible; or just simply being still and being with Him.
No words are needed sometimes, He knows what I am thinking and feeling.
Sometimes I use formal prayers, like the Our Father; the Glory Be; the Hail Mary; or I just talk to Him, just Iike l talk to a friend. There are no set formulas really, prayer is what you want and need it to be.
Prayer Quotes from ……
Pope Francis
“Dear friends, one of the most effective ways we have to help is that of prayer. Prayer unites us; it makes us brothers and sisters … and reminds us of a beautiful truth which we sometimes forget. In prayer, we all learn to say 'Father', 'Dad'. We learn to see one another as brothers and sisters. In prayer, there are no rich and poor people, there are sons and daughters, sisters and brothers. In prayer, there is no first or second class, there is brotherhood. It is in prayer that our hearts find the strength not to be cold and insensitive in the face of injustice. In prayer, God keeps calling us, opening our hearts to charity.”
C.S. Lewis
“I pray because I can’t help myself. ... I pray because the need flows out of me all the time, waking and sleeping. It doesn’t change God. It changes me.”
Martin Luther
“I have so much to do that I shall spend the first three hours in prayer.”
Charles Stanley
The essence of meditation is a period of time set aside to contemplate the Lord, listen to him, and allow him to permeate our spirits.
