YEAR 7/8 RALLY DAY

By Charlie Thorn (Middle Sports Coordinator)

A glorious spring day greeted the 140-strong cohort of Year 7 & 8 students on Monday, who travelled to various sporting destinations to participate in the CSEN Junior Rally Day for Term 4.

The sports on offer for students included badminton, table tennis, tennis, mixed netball, football fives, golf & lawn bowls. All reports on the day suggested that students had a great time competing against other schools in the CSEN network and played with a great spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship.

Congratulations to all of the students on the way that you represented the school and gave your best efforts to your teams. Thank you also to the 17 BHCS Teachers & Staff who travelled with the students to help with coaching, umpiring and support our students!

SECONDARY STATE CHESS FINALS

By Jenny Simmons (Senior Maths Teacher)

Last week a team of five Year 11 students participated in the Secondary State Chess finals. The event was held at Brighton Grammar School with 29 schools participating. Students played 8 games each over the span of the day, finishing at 6pm.

Scotch College was the winner of the competition, Melbourne High came in second and Glen Waverley Secondary College was third. Our school came a creditable 21st.

Congratulations to our team of Aaron, Heath, Will T, Jesse and Jeremy, who were willing to have a go and enjoy a new experience. A special mention to Jesse and Jeremy who jumped in at the last minute to make up the required team of 5 players.
