Literacy Instruction

InitiaLit Parent Information Evenings (Reception - Year 2)

Tuesday 18th February in Tirkandi (Library)

At LNPS, starting Term 1 2020, Reception to Year 2 classes will begin implementing a synthetic phonics approach through a program called InitiaLit.

InitiaLit is an evidence-based whole-class literacy program providing all children with the essential core knowledge and strong foundations to become successful readers and writers.

InitiaLit will become an Early Years reading program that incorporates a synthetic approach to the teaching of phonics alongside a rich literature and vocabulary component. It will ensure that there is consistent instruction across classrooms in a year level. This approach will ensure our students are exposed to the best literacy instruction focussing on vocabulary, oral language and comprehension through quality children’s literature.

We invite families to attend our information sessions to gain a better understanding of the program, its structures and useful home reading information.

The sessions will:

  • Give families a deeper insight into the essentials of the program
  • Build greater understanding about the reading process
  • Familiarise families with reading and learning at home

The three sessions are for families with Reception, Year 1 and 2 children. They have some content which is the same and families may find repetitive. However, each year level components of the program ARE different.
