Today,13th October is the Feast of St Edward the Confessor. St Edward was a King of England around 1042 - 1066, and built St Peter’s Abbey (now Westminster Abbey), found in Westminster, London. This is also where he is buried. St.Edward was a peaceful man who always prayed to God. We celebrated St. Edward's Feast day with a liturgy at each campus.
On Tuesday 18th October (Week 2) all students at St Edward's School will join children from around the world to pray the rosary. The idea for the campaign came about in 2005 in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela. While a number of children were praying the rosary at a wayside shrine, several of the women in attendance strongly felt the presence of the Virgin Mary. They immediately thought of Saint Padre Pio’s promise: “When one million children pray the rosary, the world will change.” And that is exactly what this is all about: having faith in the power of children’s prayers.
Sunday 23rd October (World Mission Sunday) we invite all families to attend our first Family Mass for the term. It is at 9.00am at Mary Help of Christians Church, Hillvue Road. Everyone is then invited to stay and share Morning Tea provided by families from Kindergarten, Year 3 and Year 6. It is a wonderful parish morning and we hope that you are able to join us.
Children’s Mission - Catholic Mission
Locally and globally, we answer the call to love God and love our neighbour, and work to establish the reign of God through serving those in need, and acting for justice and creation. During October it is World Mission month. At St Edward’s School we invite all students to be involved in Crazy Sock Day on Friday 28th October. This is Children’s Mission Day and we will be raising money for Catholic Mission.
We ask that students wear their normal sport uniform and a pair of crazy socks. Students are encouraged to bring a gold coin donation for this worthy cause.
Wow! What a buzz Term 3 was. Without a doubt Book Week is the highlight of our library year and to finish the term off with Talk Like a Pirate Day was just too much fun!
There is never a dull moment in the library and we will continue to roll on during Term 4.
Don't forget to register your child in our 1000 Books Before School Project if they are enrolled in Kinder for next year.
Parents can take home a fresh bag of age appropriate books whenever needed for their child, exposing them to endless new vocabulary and conversation. There is nothing bad about that! Help prepare your child for the best school start ever! Just pop into the Infant's Office to see the ladies and they will get you started.
If you are already participating in the project, don't forget to swap your books for a new bag as often as you like!
The Library is open to our students before school, recess and lunch. There is always, reading in every break and before school, various clubs at recess, and reading and drawing at recess and lunch. Borrowing is available all the time during the day and is strongly encouraged during break time.
The clubs include:
Early Bird Reading Club: from 8.15am every day when each campus is open.
Monday: Lego Club - Primary
Tuesday: Games Club - Primary
Wednesday: Lego Club or Craft Club
Thursday: Lego Club - Infants
Friday - Lego Club - Infants
Encourage your child to be a part of our busy, happy, vibrant library community by occasionally joining in with any or all of these activities. Please see below the days the library is open on each campus.
Primary: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday every week.
Infants: Thursday and Friday every week.
Both campuses are open:
From 8.15am for Early Bird reading and sticker collecting; and Recess and Lunch in playtime for reading, drawing and various clubs.
See you in the Library,
