From the Principal

Week 3 Term 4 2022

Dear  Parents and Careers

Prep Orientation

On Tuesday we held our first Prep Orientation session for the  those joining St Bede's in 2023.

There were a lot of excited and nervous faces (both parents and children) on the day. There was a  parent information session in the Jarrow Room  whilst the children completed a variety of activities both in and out of the classroom. Our school captains spoke brilliantly at the information session, whilst some  Yr 6 students helped in the classroom.  Our next session will be  next week.

Colour Fun Run

The colour fun run took place this afternoon. A huge thank you to the Parents association for organising this wonderful fundraiser. The children had a wonderful time being covered in coloured dust.

Father/Child camp

The Father/Child camp is taking place this weekend. Many hours of  planning have gone into organising the event, so I am glad it can proceed.  I know everyone will have a great time and I look forward to hearing lots of stories on Monday!!!!

School Closure Days

Just a reminder that there will be no school on  Monday 31st October (Reporting and Assessment Day) and Tuesday 1st November (Melbourne Cup Public Holiday)

Summer Uniform

Just a reminder that all students are expected to be in summer uniform as on Monday 24th.

Smart Watches

Just a reminder to our community that smart watches are only to be used as a watch during school times.  They are not allowed to be used for communication purposes.

Naplan

As you are  hopefully aware as a community,

St Bedes over the past two years  has had a focus on  developing strategies to improve the  teaching of spelling  ( using Smart Spelling as a tool). Our recent Yr 5 Naplan data ( St Bedes is in orange) clearly shows that these strategies are beginning to have an impact. The mean ( dark orange line) is the highest it has been since 2018.

The above diagram is our Yr 5 writing trend. There has been alot of publicity in the Media about the decline in writing across Victorian schools.  Its pleasing to see that like spelling since 2018 our trend is in an upwards direction.

Have a great week

Brian
