Wilderness Education

It was a busy time in the Wild Ed Department over the recent school holidays, with three separate Outdoor Education expeditions undertaken.

During the first week, Mr Mas-Stephens led a combined group of students from Years 9 to 11, two of whom were completing the final expedition for their Bronze Level Duke of Edinburgh Award, over the Great North Walk, travelling from Brooklyn to Berowra during the course of their three day-expedition.

In the second week of the holidays, Ms Stubenrauch took another group on the Great North Walk, this time travelling the opposite way, from Berowra to Brooklyn, for their four-day camp.  This expedition had participants from Years 10 and 11; two of whom were Gold Duke of Edinburgh candidates.  This expedition was originally planned to follow the Grose River, however, given the excessive rainfall and dangerously high river levels, this trip was rearranged to cover the Great North Walk instead.

Meanwhile, also in the second week, a group of five Year 11 Outdoor Leadership students headed off to the NSW/VIC border to complete the Nadgee Wilderness Walk.  Of particular note was that this expedition - accompanied and led by Mr Parrish Robbins - had been developed, planned and researched over many week by the students themselves.  They are to be congratulated for their meticulous planning, which led to the expedition unfolding without a hitch.

All students, on each of these three expeditions, are to be commended for their enthusiasm, teamwork, leadership and excellent conduct throughout.
