Extension Mathematics
Last term, Olive and Sienna in Year 6 were challenged by Mr Chapman from O’Connor Catholic College. Mr Chapman zoomed in each week to work with our students on complex Stage 4 Mathematics concepts. This term, Mr Chapman is on leave so he has organised a peer tutor, Riley, for Olive and Sienna. A very big shout out to Mr Chapman for sharing his love of Mathematics and expertise. Thank you to Miss Martin for making the link between schools and for seeking out enrichment opportunities for our students.
Global Citizenship Student Ambassador Program
This year, four students in Year 6 have been lucky enough to participate in the Global Citizens Student Ambassador Program. The focus of the Program is for students to design an action research project to address an issue in our school community. Our ambassadors, Noah Brennan, Mackenzie Ellem, Tom Graham and Camilla Grills, have learnt about core concepts linked to Global Citizenship, such as the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and how to lead inclusively. They have also explored project management skills, including Digital Citizenship and Media Literacy. Students have had the opportunity to meet and liaise with other student ambassadors across Australia and New Zealand.
Our very clever ambassadors developed the MARY Project, which aims to reduce the amount of waste that goes into landfill. They purchased additional recycling bins, wrote an educational program on how to use the bins, presented the MARY Project to all classes and have even communicated with the council to improve recycling services in Guyra. Check out their exceptional work below. We are so proud of you Noah, Mackenzie, Tom and Camilla! Thank you for being advocates for positive change.
