YEAR F -2
It was definitely another exciting week in F-2! We entered our spaces with lots of laughter and enthusiasm ready for a wonderful week of learning.
As writers, in Foundation, we are continuing to add further detail to our sentences by using descriptive words. Last week, we continued to become familiar with the dotted third lines and place our letters correctly on the lines guided by the ‘Clever Cat’ stamp.
For those of us in 1/2, we have had lots of fun learning about how to write procedures. We have been integrating our reading and writing this week to help us understand the structure and vocabulary within a procedural text. As writers, we used our new understandings to write our own procedures. In our learning spaces, we have been noticing that to write different types of procedures such as recipes, we need to be very clear! Our teachers have been reading out recipes or ‘how to’ instructions and following the steps and they have turned out very strange! Miss Alex used a spoon to spread the butter on our fairy bread! As thinkers, we have been using different words, such as verbs, adverbs and sequencing words, to write specific instructions so other people can follow them easily. We have been so excited this week with our other cooking experiences like frogs in a pond and fruit rockets.
We started Discovery Time for Term 4 last week which we were very excited about. Some of our stations include water play, knitting, Google Earth, human body and a puppet show! These stations share a connection to our Inquiry question ‘What’s good for me?’ as we explore our big understandings surrounding emotions, feeling safe and our bodies. As researchers, we are exploring how the human body works through a range of resources like books, models and even looking at real x-rays. As collaborators, we are working together to identify places in our local community such as St Fidelis or our homes using Google Earth. We are also going on landmark hunts to explore different places around the world!
Last week in Discovery, we found out that:
- Your teeth help you eat food, they are very strong - Jacob
- Your brain sends messages to your body to make it move - Juliano
- You have different types of teeth and they have different jobs- Maria
This week we are looking forward to performing for our families and friends at the Circus Performance on Thursday 20th of October.
Leanne Wenckowski, Alex Phillips, Stefanie Carriera and Alycia Marsico.
Foundation to Year Two Team.
YEAR 3/4
On Friday, we began our Body Safe incursion with our instructor Jay. She spoke to us about our feelings and how our body reacts or changes when we feel different emotions. We played a couple of games, including Feelings Bingo! We look forward to welcoming Jay back next week to learn more.
As readers and writers, we are learning to identify and analyse features in advertisements. In small groups, we have been collaborating to design advertisement posters for a variety of products and events. Take a look!
As mathematicians, we are learning to solve division problems by sharing objects into equal groups.
The Year 3/4 students have been practising endlessly and we look forward to the Circus Performance on Thursday night! We hope to see you all there.
Have a great week!

YEAR 5/6
Another busy week in 5/6 last week!
In Numeracy, the students have been learning all about 3-Dimensional objects and their properties. The students have used their knowledge of prisms and pyramids to design a 3D building both physically and virtually. Our creative architects used the program Tinkercad to digitally represent their buildings online and then made their models out of paper using their understanding of the 3D objects nets.
In Literacy, the students have been exploring the author Magaret Wild and her unique writing style. We explored and compared the texts Fox and Dream of the Thylacine. The students were fascinated with the life of the Tasmanian Tiger and saw the last known animal in captivity in the 1930s. It was wonderful to see the students' insights into the author's purpose and perspective in a text.
On Tuesday the Year 5/6 Girls' Softball team travelled to Pascoe Vale North Primary School to compete in the Inner North/ Moreland finals! We are so incredibly proud of the efforts and sportsmanship shown by our students. After a tough 3 innings, the girls won the game 21-17! What an amazing effort! This now means that the girls have progressed to the next round to compete against 2 other schools at the Banyule and Inner North Moreland Division Finals. We wish the team the very best of luck! Go Saints!
Getting to go to the softball finals as representatives of the small schools in our district was such a privilege. The team I was on was really talented and I knew we would make it to the finals. My team and I were playing against Pascoe Vale North Primary School for the finals, and I think I speak for my team when I say we were nervous. Even though it had just been the holidays and we hadn’t gotten much practice, we still tried to keep up a good spirit, which I think was what the other team was missing. In the first 2 innings of the game, the scores were close and we needed a lot of runs to put us high enough to win. So, we tried harder, and, in the end, we came out on top by 4 points - 21 to 17, which means we get to move on to the next round! All of the players on our team played extremely well, but some special mentions are Adelynn, who hit the ball the first time on all of her turns which gave us lots of runs, and Genevieve, who was a great catcher that got many people from the other team out. Overall, it was a great ( but nerve-racking!) experience and I can’t wait for the next game. Go Saints!!!!

As we excitedly approach the circus performance this Thursday, the 5/6 students have been practising their skills of juggling, plate spinning, diablo throwing and balancing! We cannot wait for the school community to witness the talents of our cohort and look forward to seeing all families at the show!
Have a wonderful week,
