Italian Day

Grazie Signora Anderson!

What an amazing day we had yesterday celebrating Italian culture, language, art, architecture, sports and food! Signora Anderson spent many weeks planning and preparing for this celebration and it was wonderful to see so many happy, smiling faces all round.

It was great to see the children dressed in Italian attire and there was a sea of colour and a buzz around the school as our children participated in their chosen activities.

It was also wonderful to see so many parents assisting throughout the day and involving themselves in the array of activities... something we haven't been able to do during recent times.

Grazie also to Nonna Gabby, Melanie Nappa, Rita Borg, Melinda Daglish, Mirella Verga, Margaret Bisogni, Luisa Amati Da Cunha, Eva Galliano, Antoinette Arokiasamy, Magdalena Dunne, Jill Zavalas, Julie Le, Raveen Raj-Kumar and of course Challie Redman and the students from St Paul's College Altona who assisted with the activities on the day (apologies if we have missed anyone). Bravo!

School Disco

What a Blast!

Our children certainly 'let their hair down' at our school disco last Friday and lit up the dance floor with their moves and grooves.

Our Candy Corner was a huge hit with children frequently visiting to 'fuel' themselves for the dancefloor.

A HUGE thank you to our PFA for co-ordinating such a wonderful event for our children and to our wonderful parent volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout. I'm sure there were some tired people over the weekend.

First Reconciliation

We congratulate the  16  Year 2 students who were prepared for the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time on Tuesday evening.

Thank you to the parents, Miss Borg, Miss Ly and Miss Marakis who all assisted the children in preparing for this very special sacrament and to Miss Wilkinson for her co-ordination of the sacrament.

Camp

Next Wednesday our Year 5/6 campers will depart for Camp Marysville. The aim of our camping program is to provide opportunities within the context of our Catholic principles and values that:

  • Develop deeper learning, confidence, independence, responsibility and sense of community
  • Promotes self-esteem, resilience, resourcefulness and leadership
  • Extends learning beyond the classroom
  • Provides opportunities to explore different environmental settings
  • Develops an appreciation of the wonder of the world
  • Enhances physical, social and emotional growth
  • Promotes growth of relationships

We hope our children have a wonderful time and enjoy the myriad of activities (e.g. rock climbing, mountain bike riding, abseiling) the camp has to offer. The long-range weather forecast predicts showers most days but fingers crossed they are blessed with some sunshine and blue skies.

Miss Stefanie Poropat, Ms Aphrodite Loizou, Mr Rhys O'Loughlin and Mrs Nives Childs will be attending camp so we thank them (in advance) for giving of their time to look after our children 24/7.

Timetable Changes

To facilitate our Year 5/6 Camp there will need to be timetable changes next week.  Please refer below:

Swimming Program

Our Year Prep-4 Swimming Program commences on Wednesday 2nd November which is the day after Melbourne Cup Day and will run for eight (8) consecutive days at the Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre.

Swimming is part of the Physical Education curriculum and it is expected that all students attend.  Students will travel to and from the venue by bus each day and each lesson runs for 43 minutes.

Children are to wear their bathers underneath their uniform and bring a towel and underpants to school in another bag. Girls who wish to wear one-piece bathers will be given time to change at school before the lesson.

Please ensure that all items of clothing and the swimming bag are clearly labelled with the child’s name and grade. No jewellery is to be worn during the swimming program.

Parents who wish to observe their children swim are asked to adhere to the following guidelines as set by the Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre:

  • ALL parents/spectators must enter through the main entrance doors and report to customer service to advise they are watching the swim program with the school
  • No photographs are to be taken by parents/spectators
  • Parents/spectators must remain 4 metres from the edge of the pool and are NOT to approach children (or instructors) during lessons

Throughout the program, we encourage the children to be as independent as possible, including getting themselves dressed in the change rooms after their lesson (You will be surprised how capable they actually are). In conjunction with our Child Safety Policy, parents are NOT  permitted in the change rooms while the children are getting changed. Teachers will be reminding you of this so please respect their requests. We also ask that items from the canteen are not purchased for children.

During the swimming program, it is important that all children have a healthy and hearty breakfast and that they bring some extra healthy snacks to keep them going throughout the day, especially since they will be having an earlier lunch than normal.

Keep an eye out for permission requests, along with the full timetable which will be sent out via Operoo today.

School Operations: COVID -19 Update

As the Victorian Government has announced the end of the pandemic declaration and associated pandemic orders, please note the following details-

Changes to COVID-19 isolation requirements:

It is strongly recommended that students:

  • who test positive for COVID-19 should stay home and isolate for five days
  • should not attend school after five days if still symptomatic
  • who are symptomatic but have not tested positive should not attend school.

Where students become symptomatic at school, they should:

  • be collected by their parents/carers
  • undergo testing for COVID-19.

COVID-19 reporting requirements:

The Department of Health recommends that a person who tests positive for COVID-19 should inform those with whom they have recently been in contact, including their workplace, school and household.

Schools will no longer be required to report positive cases to the community.

Face Masks

Staff and students who wish to wear a face mask should be supported to do so, and schools should continue to make face masks available for staff, students and visitors.

The Department of Health recommends that masks should be worn by a person who is a close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 when leaving home.

Additionally, the department recommends that masks should be worn by a person who has COVID-19 for 10 days after a positive test when they need to leave home.

Rapid Antigen Testing

It is recommended that rapid antigen tests (RATs) are used by students and staff when symptomatic.

We will be sending home all excess RATs to families this week.

Nudel Kart

Our Nudel Kart is proving a huge hit at lunchtime with our children. Not only is our Nudel Kart a valuable resource for science and technology within the classroom, but it is also fantastic for creativity, teamwork and self-directed play.

Important Notice!

Believe it or not, we are well into planning preparations for 2023  so to assist with staffing and class groupings we really need to know ASAP if there are any families who are NOT returning to Corpus Christi School next year.

Please contact me directly if your child/ren will not be returning in 2023.

Year Prep 2023

Next Monday we will host our first Year Prep 2023 Transition Morning so there will be NO morning assembly.

It's always an exciting time welcoming our new children (and families) and one we always look forward to.

Our current Year Preps will be working in the Art Room with Signora Anderson and Miss Letitia for the morning session so we ask you head in that direction upon arrival.

There will be extra congestion in and around the school, especially in regards to parking so please plan for this in your morning routine.

Have a wonderful week

God bless

Anthony Hyde
