S.I.S BOOK IN A DAY PRESENTATION

Our Book In A Day team were thrilled to come second in the competition for a 5000 word story which they wrote in one day. The team was awarded a certificate and $200 from Campion Books to spend on books for the library. A special mention was made of our story’s illustrations which were done by Naomi Mu in Year 7. Each of our team wrote a chapter and then edited another team member’s work. The story, Ottawa is Cagedwhich could be classified as a dystopian thriller, turned out really well. It was lovely to host the other schools for the presentation in our school library.  Congratulations to the Book In A Day team, you all worked brilliantly together. I think it was hard, but enjoyable work.

SIS Book In A Day Team: Naomi Mu, Bianca Mercado, Ruhani Kaushal, Matthew Sinclair, Fiona Dubey, Michelle Nguyen, Charli Williams, Kelly Montebello.

"From the College Archives"

The Clancy building was opened on June 21st, 2000, by Bishop Coffey. It then contained five academic classrooms. At that time, the college’s first Special Program’s Department was housed in a small room adjacent to the main corridor of the building. When the Special Program’s personnel relocated to the Terry Feely Learning Centre, the room was renovated and became a sixth classroom.

The building was named in honour of Mr. John Clancy, the first chairperson of the St. Peter’s College Board of Management. He became the chairperson of the in 1994 and continued in this role until 1999. As a result, he was instrumental, along with other members of the board and college administration, in facilitating the early growth of St. Peter’s College.

John Clancy was also an active member of St. Agatha’s Pariah and the local Cranbourne community. As an interesting sidelight, his daughter, the then Emma Clancy, was a student leader of the St. Francis Xavier College, Cranbourne Campus. She took a prominent role in the official opening ceremony. She then went on to complete her studies at St. Francis Xavier College, Beaconsfield. Later. Ms. Clancy returned to St. Peter’s College as a teacher of Dramatic Arts and associated subjects. She was also active in several college productions, especially For Art’s Sake, the college production of 2000.

The contribution of John Clancy, and his family, to the St. Peter’s College community is remembered by the naming of the Clancy building which has been the gathering space for Marian House since 2015.
