Time is running out to get your tickets to see the College production of The Addams Family – The Musical!

Students and staff have been busy putting the final touches on the musical ahead of its opening night in just a weeks' time - Thursday 29 September!

From rehearsals to preparing every aspect of the production, including costumes, lighting, sound and music, our cast, musicians and crew have worked with great enthusiasm and dedication for months to bring a polished performance to the stage.

The show will be playing on Thursday 29 September to Saturday 1 October at The Playhouse Theatre. Tickets can be purchased online by clicking here

Join The Addams Family and their ancestors for a night of wicked humour conjuring the spirits that have come before us...

We look forward to seeing you at the theatre, if you dare!

Year 10 Pillars camp

On Monday 5 and Wednesday 7 September, our year group attended their Year 10 Pillars at Spring Beach in Triabunna.

Separated into House groups, students participated in various activities, including gardening, pizza making, bush tucker, meditation and yoga, as well as a range of team building exercises.

Pillars was a great opportunity for our Year 10s to bond with each other and experience new things. A highlight of the camp was the last day's House performance. It was great to see the effort put into these performances and everyone getting along with each other. Shout out to College for no doubt raising the bar high for the rest of the Houses.

On day two of the camp, six Year 10 students left to attend their Southern SATIS athletics carnival before returning that afternoon. It was a fun day in the sun and the group came away with many commendable efforts.

Overall, it was an amazing camp that we all enjoyed very much! Thank you to Mr Jarvis and Mrs Webb for organising this experience, as well as all the other staff and volunteers who came along and made this trip possible.

Students get a taste for food photography

Our Year 10 Food Technology students have become masters in the art of food styling following a recent workshop with Eloise Emmett, an award-winning Tasmanian cookbook author, qualified chef and photographer.

Under Eloise's direction, the students created an aesthetically pleasing scene and then used their iPhones to take and edit their photos.

Volunteering with Foodbank

On Wednesday 14 September, the Level 3 Food and Nutrition students visited Foodbank Tasmania as part of their unit on food security.

Foodbank is a non-profit organisation that provides food and groceries to charities and school breakfast programs in every Australian state and territory.

As Foodbank relies heavily on teams and organisations, they were very grateful to have our students generously give their time to help pack food relief hampers which will be distributed to people in need.

Alumni 'On the Couch'

It was lovely to welcome alumni, Kate Oliver and Sophie Robinson (class of 2020), back to their old stomping ground on Friday 16 September for our latest segment of 'On the Couch' - where we invite alumni to meet with current students and share their stories and experiences since graduating from the College.

The accomplished athletes spoke to our Senior School students about their love for rowing and their journey with the sport, including their time representing Australia recently at the World Rowing Championships in Varese, Italy, where they competed in the U23 Lightweight Women's Pair Event.

We are so grateful to Kate and Sophie for taking the time to speak with us.

Their stories were an inspiration to many of our students who aspire towards a career in rowing or need a reminder about the power of believing in yourself and chasing your dreams.

Thank you to you both, and for kindly gifting Principal Damian Messer his very own framed and signed Australian Rowing Team polo!

Guest author stirs up creativity – and laughs

What do spy cats, cursed footy ovals and secret alien zoos have in common?

They all feature in the pages of Adrian Beck's illustrated books!

It was a pleasure to have the popular children's author and TV producer join us at the College on Monday for an interactive and fun-filled workshop with our Years 3 and 4 students.

Adrian, who originally hails from Hobart, is the author of the Derek Dool and The Champion Charlies book series, and the Kick it to Nick series, which he co-wrote with AFL Hall of Fame inductee, Shane Crawford.

His dad jokes and hilarious childhood anecdotes had students in stitches—but there were plenty of opportunities for learning too, with Adrian's presentation covering writing tips, techniques for harnessing creativity and how to fight writer's block like a pro.

Thank you for sharing your passion for writing and storytelling with us, Adrian.

School banner display

Earlier last term, you may recall reading about this beautiful spring-themed artwork, pictured here, which our Year 3 classes created through their involvement in the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery's 2022 school banner project.

We are now delighted to announce that the banner will be on display around the exterior fences of TMAG from Tuesday 4 October to Sunday 23 October as part of 'Lift Off' - TMAG's Festival for Children and Young People.

Pop the above dates in your diary so you don't miss the opportunity to view our banner on display, alongside banners from other schools around Hobart.

Well done to all our Year 3 students and class teachers on your fantastic work and creativity!
