Victorian High Ability Program
The extension, enrichment and continued growth of high achieving students matters to us and we were delighted to see the hard work of six Year 5 students acknowledged with selection in the Victorian High Ability Program this term. The selection process is managed by the Department of Education and draws on a combination of teacher judgement and NAPLAN data to identify high-achieving students in Mathematics and English.
The 10-week online program saw the selected students join Virtual School Victoria for one hour a week (as well as pre and post-lesson work) where they engaged in tasks designed to stimulate their critical thinking, problem-solving and creativity – enriching their understanding of Mathematics and English. Throughout the term, these students showed excellent commitment, and organisation and demonstrated a regular ability to think outside the box. Congratulations to Abbey C, Tom G, Georgia S, Aydin K, Tom F and Xavier D.
Victorian High Ability Program Masterclasses
Over the course of the next week, all students selected for VHAP Maths and English courses this semester will participate in a special Masterclass event to celebrate and apply their learning. Organised by the school in collaboration with neighbouring schools, our students will be challenged and extended even further with specialist Maths (Love Maths)/English (100 Story Building) consultants facilitating the sessions. Students will work with like-minded peers in a series of challenges designed to further the skills, knowledge and understanding developed throughout the course. I look forward to sharing student reflections from the event in the next newsletter.
