Our Positive Traits

In PEEC in Grade 3/4 we have been working on identifying our own positive traits and how we can compare and contrast them with others. We created a heart filled with everything we love and we took part in a "peer assessment" to give feedback to a partner.

"First we had to write about ourselves and we had to make a heart. It took a couple of days to get them done. It really made me feel happy to write all the things down about myself and helped me to understand myself more." Aavnish

"We had to describe ourselves in three ways and it was a bit hard at first but it was fun and interesting. I wrote that I am sporty, kind and helpful." Hollie

"I thought it was pretty interesting writing about myself in this way. I enjoyed this because I like who I am, because I am unique and I like to be kind and caring and look out for others." Reuben

"I learnt that understanding what you like to do and what you like in your life is important. It has taken some time to finish the heart. It was so fun!" Diya

School Parliament

Grades 5/6 Huon and Sassafras held their opening of the John Paul II School Parliament at the start of term. Our School Parliament is based on Federal Parliament. Parliament is an opportunity for students to practise their public speaking, organise activities and make a change within the school. A number of bills were raised and were passed by the students (House of Representatives). These bills will now move to the staff (Senate) to be voted on.

The bills raised are listed below.

Nicholas Grainger - The Black Sock Bill

We want black socks to be part of our school uniform. If you go onto the school oval your socks get dirty and the white socks stain easily.

Mia-Tenille Parkinson - The YouTube Music Bill.

We want to be able to listen to music on Youtube. On the radio website you can’t choose your favourite song but on Youtube you can.

Robbiel Reyes - The School Bell Bill. We want to change the music for the bell to a happy song such as ‘Happy’ or ‘Can’t stop the feeling.’ The current music is boring and sounds sad.

Samson Coates - The Counter Sales Bill.

We want to be able to have an item available every month to purchase from the canteen. This could include: frozen yoghurt, icypoles, chips, cookies, etc.

Caleb Brown - The Water Cordial Bill

We want to be able to bring water cordial to school as the teachers are allowed to drink whatever they want and the students can only bring water.

Liam Headlam - The School Flag Bill.

We want to put the Torres Strait Islander Flag alongside the Aboriginal and Australian Flags. To do this we will also need to get new flag poles that all 3 flags can be attached. By raising all 3 flags we are representing all Australians.

Tom Scott - The Gaga Ball Bill. We want to have a gaga ball court built. We played gaga ball at camp and everyone really enjoyed it.

Aaron Okumu - The Court Lines Bill. We would like different coloured lines drawn onto the basketball court for both basketball and netball.

Grade 5|6 Inter School Netball

Each Friday afternoon during Term 3 our Grade 5/6 students are participating in the Catholic Schools netball competition. We have four teams competing each week with our Grade 5 teams beginning at 12.15pm and Grade 6s at 1.15pm.

We have been fortunate enough to work alongside some wonderful Mackillop students who have volunteered their Friday afternoons to help out with umpiring and organising teams on the court. We would also like to thank Miss Riley who has been coming along to train and assist us with learning the rules of the game.

Students are thoroughly enjoying this opportunity and consistently represent our school with a great sense of sportsmanship and pride.
