School closure days 12th and 15th August

School closure days for this term are scheduled for August 12th and 15th.

The Department of Education recently reached an in-principle agreement with unions, as bargaining representatives of employees in the Victorian Teaching Service, on a proposed replacement enterprise agreement that will apply to teaching service employees (eligible employees).

As part of these negotiations, the Department of Education and Training has provided schools with the option to hold a professional practice day on the same day for all staff, for Term 3, 2022 Only. This is to enable the most effective and efficient use of this day.

As a result, we have scheduled our professional practice day for Monday 15th August 2022.   This date is in addition to the closure day scheduled for Friday 12th August 2022. Students will not be required to attend school on either of these days.

A full-day before and after school care program will be provided by the YMCA  both days.

Families wishing to use this service can visit the YMCA Children’s Programs website to learn more about the program, pricing and to start the booking and enrolment process.

Face masks in schools

The Deputy Secretary Schools and Regional Services, David Howes has written to school regarding the recent announcements by the Victorian government about public health measures to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and other illnesses, especially influenza, throughout the remainder of the winter season.

A copy of the letter to schools can be found here:

It is strongly recommended by the Victorian Department of Health that face masks are worn in indoor settings, with face masks mandatory for those aged 8 and over who are household contacts and attending school. This is because the wearing of masks is effective in reducing the transmission of COVID-19.

It is the department’s expectation that, through to the end of winter, students aged 8 and over and staff will wear masks when in class, except where removing a mask is necessary for clear communication or when a particular activity requires the removal of a mask.

Masks are not required to be worn outdoors but can be worn when physical distancing is not possible. This expectation should not constrain student participation in the full range of school activities, including music, sport and performances.

Wearing masks is a simple step we can all take this winter to reduce the number of COVID-19 cases and ensure our schools are as safe as possible.
