Senior School

From the Head of Senior School

This week some of our students listened to a presentation from St George’s College who came to let students know about their residential options for any young person interested in studying at TAFE or any University in Perth. Meanwhile, our Year Eleven Peer Support leaders had their final session for the term with the Year Seven students.  This week, the students made paper rockets together.  While hands were busy, the leaders guided the younger students through conversations about their wellbeing and their first semester in Middle School. The leaders have taken their roles very seriously this semester and I have been delighted with the way they have connected with their groups and handled unpredictable moments.  I see leaders emerging and have encouraged them to consider applying for Year Twelve leadership next term.

As we finish off the first semester of 2022, I cannot help but be impressed with so many of our students here in Senior School.  Seeing students excel on the stage at the VET Show and 'Pizza Beats' last week was exciting.

Hearing about sporting successes as the winter sports season reaches its half way point is also thrilling; our students grow so much in both height and strength at this age and stage and we often see this having an impact in the sporting arena.  Reviewing academic reports allows me to see other students shine. Watching our Year Ten students start their decision-making process, listening to their thoughts and questions, and then observing their personal growth in this week of Work Experience is another joy.

All of the above takes effort: training, practising, studying, thinking, researching and I am proud of our students for pushing themselves and then reaping the rewards for their endeavours.  Maybe that’s a place in a team for Country Week, a cheer from the audience at a concert, impressive grades or the comfort of a well thought-out and researched decision. Regardless of the reward, as I look around at the students I see reasons for each of them to celebrate as they reflect on their semester.  I can’t wait to see how they challenge themselves next term!
