SENIOR SCHOOL

Climate Change Guest Speaker
Year 10 students are currently studying energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. On Thursday, 6 September guest speaker, Nick Katiforis from Siemans was invited to the college to make a presentation to students on the human impacts on the environment and discussed the pertinent climate issues facing this generation worldwide and within Australia.
Did you know Doncaster Secondary College self funded and installed the largest solar system on a government school in Victoria last year. The system has generated 357.31MWh (Mega Watt hours) since it was installed and has offset 189.45t of C02. The school’s solar system generates approximately 360MWh (Megawatt hours) per annum and provides around 30% of the school’s total electricity usage. To put this into perspective, the average Victoria home uses about 5.3MWh per annum. Which means that the energy generated by the solar system on Doncaster college could power 68 fully electric homes for the whole year.
The system is exporting some of its renewable energy to power surrounding homes, and sometimes the school is 100% running on renewable energy.
