SSV STATE SWIMMING AND DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Twenty students were successful in qualifying for the SSV State Swimming and Diving Championships. A fantastic achievement and the most students McKinnon has ever had at this event.

Will Sharp had an exceptional day, winning five Gold medals and a Silver medal in the Relay. Will won the 200m Individual Medley, 200m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke. In the 50m backstroke, Will also set a new state record of 29.35 seconds.

The Relay was an exciting race. McKinnon, represented by Will Sharp, Daniel Gershenzon, Kun Liu and Michael Gershenzon set out fast and had the lead all the way, before being pipped out by 0.10 seconds.

Maya Hammam also had a very successful day winning two Silver (50m butterfly and 50m freestyle) and a Bronze in the 50m backstroke. An excellent achievement after swimming at the Australian Swimming Championships the week before.

The final Relays were for our 12-14 year old Boys teams. The Medley Relay represented by Jarek Soen, Aaron Khominsky, Michael Gershenzon and Kun Liu won a Silver medal. Jarek and Aaron then backed up with Hugo Murray and Ben Maxwell to win another Silver medal in the freestyle relay. Outstanding results!

The diving took place on Thursday 27 April. Students that performed exceptionally well were:

- Grace Mackay: Finished 2nd in the SMR Final and won a Silver medal in the State Final.

- Kizzie Stirling won the SMR Championship and finished 6th in the State Final.

- Alex Ivanov finished 3rd in the SMR Final and 6th in the State Final.

Well done to all students who excelled and showcased the wonderful talent McKinnon has.

SENIOR GIRLS TENNIS

Pumped up from the last round, six eager girls (Keeley Dang, Jessica Zivin, Emily Riordan, Kathy Lee, Anita Zhao and Mia Lopez) set off to play in the SMR Regional Finals.

With a slow but steady start, we came across our opposition MacRobertson High and Dandenong High.

Winning Pool A in stylish fashion we progressed to the Finals against Dromana. Again, our talent shone through winning four sets to two.

Special mention must go to Mia, Emily and Anita who were undefeated for the day.

On behalf of all the girls, we thank dearly Mrs Hooper who has been by our side since the first round.

Bring on the State Finals on Monday 22 May!

YEAR 7 GIRLS TENNIS

The Year 7 Girls Tennis team were pumped up and ready to play against Mentone in the first round. All their effort paid off as they won 5-1 in sets. In the second round the team had a bye which meant that we were automatically set to play against Dandenong in the third round.

This guaranteed them a spot in the Finals against Dromana. It was a tough match but the girls pulled through and won the Southern Metropolitan Region 5-1!

The girls were thrilled and are looking forward to competing in the State Finals in November.

Congratulations to Lisa Liu and Surina Chakravorty who went through the day underfeated.

Other team members were: Joanna Lee, Georgia Foran, Bianca Pecer and Emily Danckert.
